Accident prone on pred? 😖

This morning, while dressing, I moved my right wrist quickly, and painfully sprained it- on the pinky side. I wasn't lifting anything or doing anything strenuous. Now the thing is very painful. Resorting to ice and Tylenol. This is very scary because I feel like I can fall apart at any second. Otherwise I feel really well. I just started, yesterday, slow taper to 13.5.

any ideas?

Ha ha.  Not laughing at you, but agreeing.  The month after I started on pred everything seemed to happen to me.  My cat walked under my foot as I was stepping down and caused me to "skid" wrenching all sorts of muscles and for about a week reminding me what PMR really felt like.  I had an insect bite or sting at the top of my foot that developed a strange lump just in a place where my shoe pressed so that walking was painful, I caught my hand on a chair and bent the finger back so far it took a couple of months to feels normal again.  Also came down with the worst cold I'd had for years.  Only consolation - if my bones were as thin as my doctor was trying to tell me they are I'd have broken something for sure, and I didn't.

That used to happen with my fingers, one false move and it was really sore. But it wasn't pred, it was the PMR, it was long before pred.

I have PMR and have been meaning to ask if anyone has had issues with injurys. Last October I                                                                                                                            tore the flexor tendon in my right index finger simply making the bed. Still hasn't healed and may have to have surgery. Not sure that I want to do that.  At the time of my injury I had been on prednisone for 3 mths and was taking 13mgs a day.

Oh my goodness Darlene.  I thought I read in a book by Kate somebody about PMR that tendons can be damaged from PMR? I've not heard anyone talk of it here, so I'm thinking I read it wrong, but some of my tendon areas (hip flexor area) have always been tender and somewhat painful when I use them ever since I got PMR. I do always worry about over using them and damaging them. But finger tendons, yikes.

I hope someone comments who might know more on this.

Pred can make tendons weaker but usually it takes longer than that. The pred is probably not helping the healing process - although torn tendons don't heal well even when you are healthy. I developed achilles tendonitis (due to taking steroids and a particular antibiotic at the same time) and was very very careful (I wore a boot and used crutches) until it got better because it could have torn just by tripping and that would have meant major surgery

However - sounds like a good reason not to make the bed!

You're right a very good reason not to make the bed! Haha! I joined this site about two months ago and have learned so much. Most doctors just give textbook advise, actually living with PMR is very different. Thanks for all your informative posts!

Hi Karen,

I have been on prednesone for almost a year and so far have tapered down to 4 mg a week. During this past year I have been very lucky...continuing my regular workouts. But last week I was playing chase with my year old kitten and she snuck up on me from behind and startled me so bad that I screeched and twisted around straining my lumbar (my lower back/side muscle.) Now my lower back hurts more than PMR at its worst. I am taking muscle relaxers but still have much pain trying to sleep. Finally resorted to Ibuprofen which I shouldn't take with Prednesone but have no choice. So yes, I believe we get strains and injures easier when on prednesone. Hope you are feeling better.
