Achilles/Heel pain three months after Grade 3 ligament tear

Hello all,

I fractured my ankle/lower shin bone and had a grade 3 ligament tear just over three months ago after going over on it during a game of indoor 5 a side.

The swelling has well gone, and most of the redisual pain when I flex/turn the ankle, but I keep getting really sharp shooting pains that eminate from my heel and shoot up my achilles. Is this to be expected?

Out of interest, how long should I reasonably be looking at before starting to jog and maybe get back to football? Cheers.

Mmmmm I love walking but have been told 6 to 12 months till back to normal activity 👎 I feel I am not ready for a long power walk just yet. My damaged ligaments were repaired also Achilles' tendon was stretched. I have no pain in ankle, but 10 wks after replacement ,I get wee shooting pains at ligament side. ( that is it healing or so I,m told) it's strange at first putting weight on foot, certainly gets easier with time.. I am walking with my own trainers & 1 crutch when out , no crutch inside house. Good luck , hope you are jogging shortly but do not rush it.

Thanks Catherine. I think that is the problem, I am expecting a major injury just to be cleared after three months and judging by some of the posts on here that clearly isn't reasonable! A good few months yet before I'll play I think...

Yes tommos16 Because I have no pain ect and walking without crutch, I am itching to get going BUT I think a bit TOO confident😉 and realise I need to slow down. Wishing you a speedy recovery
