I'm 10 days tkr post op and have severe pain in my Achilles' tendon. I was wondering if anyone has had the same thing happen.
Hi Joe
I am 4 weeks post op TKR and have to say that I seem to have pain all around my ankle and lower leg, it seems too connect, I think through the tendons that have been messed with during surgery. Mine are particularly bad after exercises and I get terrible pain in my heel during the night. In fact at the moment I have really bad aches in that area right now 😰.
Gosh yes! I thoughtI must be the only one. I can certainly sympathize with you- it is painful. At about 16 wks post TKR this had been an off and on problem. What is working for me during a flare-up is- mild stretching, heat, an anti-inflammatory, and time. Sometimes I massage my achilles tendon with Aspercreme or something like that. The bad news is it can interfere with my knee exercises. I find that water therapy helps with both issues though. While I'm not certain what causes the problem, I am trying to make sure that I stretch out my leg when I walk and to make sure the shoes allow me the best stretch and stride. My physical therapist could not seem to offer any particular insight when it first began. Let me know please how it's going!
Thank you .. I just hope this goes away asap ..
Hi yes I had the same thought it was me I solved it by stretching it out hold a towel around your foot and pull your toes up towards your body yes it hurts but works and put ice on the area massage also helps.
Hope it's better do on mine was about 2wks.
Good idea, Dee. I think I'll try that if it happens again.
Hi Joe,
I'm 13 weeks TKR and also have Achilles soreness. Thought it was brought about from constant stretching, PT exercises, and aggressive bike riding. Went online and found an article that suggested icing for 20 min. (I use a pliable gel pad that comes out of the freezer with flannel cover). Wait a minimum of 20 min. and follow-up with low heat for 15 min. The article also mentioned that NSAIDs thin your blood and may make the tendon problems worst by causing bleeding in or about the tendon. I'm going with Tylenol. Just started this regimen yesterday. All this is tricky since exercise and stretching is required for TKR rehab but this may cause the tendon problem to develop.
Thank you ,
I have been stretching so much walking a lot too. I ice all the time . I am black and blue up and down the leg and now my quad is hurting bad , don't know what else to do . Just hope it gets better .
Thanks
Joe
With the black and blue issues, perhaps you should contact your doctor. No sense taking any chances after all the effort and work it has taken to get this far. Good luck.
Not a Dr, but I had similar and turns out I had a secondary bleed due to over doing it whilst still taking the blood thinners. Pain is excruciating ! They will advise "RICE". rest, ice, compression and elevation . good luck. Sue
It can happen, I had the same put towel around your foot and stretch it by pulling toes up towards you use ice as well and of course although excerciser is good so is rest.
Thanks dee I appreciate it .
Thanks sue I appreciate it .
I had this when I had tkr 5 years ago but I think I was quite later on that 10 days post op, it was probably nearer a month or even 6 weeks post op. Dr said it was normal and not to worry. It did disappear in the end.
Hang in there.
Take care and keep in touch
