Aching buttocks

I had a hip replacement in October. All went well. All winter I enjoyed my bed with no pain. I was walking miles. Now returning to a walking group (only about 3 miles) or gardening I get an ache in the bum (both sides) which regularly wakes me up at 5 am. Does this sound like glutes out of condition? I seem to get more of an ache if I do lots of exercises for glutes. Does anyone else have this problem.

Margaret,

I had a trhr (right) in January. The ache in my rear-end (U.S.) is the worst of all. In one forum I described it as a hard tennis ball feeling. It hurts with every step and move I make. Some say it's from the muscles, ligaments , etc. being pulled and moved. Mine has always been there only on the right side, but won't go away. I'm in P.T. now working on it. Doc called it IT Band syndrome. Also affects the knee. I guess it's common with runners and can flare up any time..Stretches are suppose to help. Best of luck!

My hip replacement displaced twice I get terrible pain in my buttock constantly without doing anything it's like somonehas kicked me in the series

dear margaret,

congratulations !!! seems like you are doing great ...

interesting how you wake up around 5 am because of the aches in your bum ... does it wake you up?

Maybe walking with the group has changed the way you walk slightly - it might be different from walking by your self - I know I do - even just with one other person - I adjust my speed or something to the other person's and end up with sore muscles -

do you sit on your haunches when gardening?

maybe gentle stretching (warm up) exercises and massages will help -

keep on walking, girl ....

big warm hug

Thanks for replying Dana. I had Itb diagnosed by Surgeon about one month ago, just above knee. When you said about it in the buttocks I looked it up, and yes it can go up to the buttocks. So I think I will keep on with two different stretches, and not quad exercises and if it does not go away I will visit a physio.Hope yours is better for stretches.

Surgeon also said don't rest, work through it. After gardening I find a good rub helps. Have you heard about foam rolling.

I guess that would have the same effect. I am a fit 69 year old.

Margaret

Hi Margaret,

Thank you so much for your response. I haven't heard abot foam rollers. I'll try anything at this point. I just turned 67 so I'm in that hippie generation, too. I have not let up on the exercises although I considered it at one time. Like you, I've always been active and fit. It has seemed like the last seven months have been an eternity. My bad leg won't allow me to do anything. I still struggle to put on my shoes and socks because my knee won't bend. My hip won't move outwardly very far and it's discouraging. The pain has never stopped from day 1. I'll keep it going. I hope your aching goes away quickly and your soon running ahead of the pack! Thanks again. I appreciate your help.
