Acid Came Up Into Throat

I know as we get older things happen but last night I was asleep but felt a liquid come up into my throat. There was a strong burning sensation and for a few seconds felt like my thoat was closed and couldn't breathe. I'm not one for paincking but it did disturb me a bit. I drank some water but it didn't feel right and had trouble getting back to sleep.

Hope this is the right place fro this by the way.

Hi have you been diagnosed with acid reflux?

This happens to me on a regular basis it is a awful choking feeling. I have to be physically sick before it settles down and then I take gavison liquid.

If this happens often maybe worth seeing

Your GP.

are you Taking calcium supplements? If so, it's acid rebound (Google it). Anything with calcium carbonate and most very alkaline liquids/pills can cause that painful acid.

if you have not started taking anything like that then it could be as we age we need longer before sleep to digest food. I now make sure I do not eat anything after 8 p.m. In time for sleep at 11 p.m. otherwise bubbling and acid reflux from tummy.

the stomach is very changeable orgN so it may just need to settle again, try coca cola as the phosphoric acid in it settles the stomach by doing the opposite of acid rebound.  It tricks the stomach into making less acid.

Hi

This is exactly what was happening to me before it prompted me to do some research. I have lived with acid reflux for most of my life. I had been on Omeprazole for about 15 years during which time the reflux morphed into acid regurgitation ... awake most of the night belching back acid and undigested food 12 hours after I had eaten it!

As a result of my research I read and bought into the idea that the problem with reflux is not that you produce too much acid but that you dont produce enough and this puts pressure on the valve at the bottom of the oesphagus. The arguement was that the medical profession just treat the symptoms not the cause (which if you believe this theory it actually makes taking PPI's worse!).

Since this time I have been taking HCL (Hydrchloric Acid) with Pepsin tablets (a natural supplement) with each meal (except breakfast) along with Digestive Enzymes. I HAVENT HAD A SINGLE BOUT OF REFLUX OR REGURGITATION SINCE DOING THIS and I put this down to the fact that food is now being properly digested by the HCL

I still have some discomfort because I believe that my oesophagus has become damaged over the years but it is manageable and nothing like what I was experiencing

i hope this might help because it sounds very similar to my own experience
