Hi Michelle,
I have the same problem. It comes and goes and seems to fluctuate with my changing hormone levels. I have acid reflux and it feels like a lump of food is stuck in my esophagus or stomach. I also get the burning tongue symptom. Apparently burning mouth and tongue can happen in peri menopausal women, as well as the gastrointestinal issues. These have to do with the changing estrogen levels. I have been having digestive issues for about a year and a half now and it's been very frustrating.
On a positive note my GI doctor told me he sees a lot of women in their 40's and 50's with digestive issues which he feels are hormone related. As a matter of fact I just had endoscopy and colonoscopy today and he says everything is absolutely normal!
I found that sucking on a slippery elm lozenge helped.
Mine has been worse as well . I went to my pcp and started taking famotidine once daily and I haven't had any heartburn lately
Hi Michelle,
I took proton pump inhibitors for a while for the reflux but it only seemed to make the attacks less frequent.
I found ginger capsules 2 before meals (about 1/2 hour before) and lots of ginger tea made with fresh ginger stopped it.
After a few months I stopped to see how things were without and I've only had it a few times since.
It was every day constant and I could still be tasting last nights tea when I got up.
The only thing that helped with the metallic taste was extra strong mints (now I knew why little old ladies always offered these). I hate mints but found it better to use them and at it's worst 2 and a bit packs a day than have that nasty taste. For some reason peppermint taste stays longer than other sweets or chewing gum.
Yes. Try some over the counter antiacids. They do help.
