activity level 12 days post op from bunionectomy

I'm seeing my doctor today, 12 days post op from bunionectomy (a word I would have never thought I would type with ease) and I'm wondering what everyone's activity level really is at this point and how soon are you all returning to jobs that require alot of movement and quick response?

I was back to work in 2 weeks after my surgery, and I worked in a daycare center

I'm wondering the same thing.

Im suppose to be out a total of 12 wks. This is my fourth wk. I'm hoping I can return to work on time and be able to work my 40 hours.

Get the boot! I went back in 2 weeks after my surgery,

I'm day 9 post op have been signed off for 5 weeks but consultant said because of job (hca on busy hospital ward doing 12 half hr shifts) I may need extra weeks off gp all depending on ability to get shoes on suitable for work

I am 4 weeks now, no problem going around. Visit my doctor yesterday . He told me that usually, he wants 6 weeks to be at home. It's all depend how active you at your job. I am 8 hours at my feet, so probably will work 4 hours for 2 months. Your bone heals after 6 weeks, so give it at least this time to rest.

Hi, I am 11 weeks 2 days post op, still not at work I am a healthcare assistant, due to pain in toe and foot, still waking with a limp !

These responses are all very helpful. I feel that I'm capable of doing more than I probably should be doing at this point but don't want to overdo it. I feel a little like I'm cheating being off of work however my job requires me to be up and running in a moment's notice and at a steady pace. While I am moving around quite well with a boot on one foot and a heel on the other (a real sight) I don't think I'm ready for that kind of activity yet. I love to dance and tried to do a simple bachata yesterday to see what my level of ability was, I think I will stick to walking across the room for coffee 😯.

Are you still off primarily due to limp, pain level, lack of good shoes or ability to run at pace required? Can you drive?

I am 70 yrs now, so retired from my career. I had a bunion removal and reconstruction done with 2 screws in December, so am now 11 wks post op.  I was walking in my outdoor shoes at 5/6 wks.  Driving at 7 weeks and supermarket shopping at about the same time, as well as walking the dog for 20/25 mins. At this stage of 11 weeks I am still getting occasional swelling of the foot most days - depending on how long I've been on my feet - but that subsides after elevating it for a while. Also the nerve jumping is less frequent now. All in all things are getting better with each week that passes. Good luck with your recovery too. LadyPink

I am 8 weeks and still not back at work. I am not driving a normal car but manage the automatic fine. Large offices mean the getting into work would be an ordeal rather than work itself. I am still not wearing normal shoes either. Hoping to go back next week but I was told this is normal and you have to listen to your body. My foot is swollen if I try and wear a pair of trainers one size up so still in crocs mainly. It is definitely improving but imagine I will phase return when I do go back

Hi, because of stiffness and pain in the big toe, when I had my first X-ray they discovered I also have arthritis in that toe, still limping because of the pain. I'm wearing wide shoes and swimming shoes which are really comfortable. I'm a carer which involves bending, lifting, rolling and being on hands and knees, very difficult getting up from kneeling position !

13 day post op, not doing a lot can walk without crutches but with heel shoe, walking around my bungalow that is. I did try to walk to the shop on our estate but found it hard work and foot really was not happy afterwards. It sort of throbed all evening and became swollen. However all in all seems to be going better than I expected.. Hope that helps x

You are a machine! I am hoping that you work in an administrative role, or graveyard shift?

Yes Sara I agree, Precious makes us all look whimpy huh?

Lol no everyone heal different, I had to get back to work, I don't like sitting around, I was working 6am to 3pm, so if my foot started to hurt I would put it up. But u ladies hang in there

I feel like I am cheating also, feels great, no problem going around. Look at it like vacation at home. Read the book, you never have time to read, watch movies. I did a lot of things around the house- one thing a day, clean my bar, there I put everything I don't need, clean my dining room. Just do a little thing and rest with the feet up. Look at it like your bone can heal  only after 6 weeks, no matter how great it looks outside. So give your feet at least this time. After this I will go for two months for 4 hours. After all, we have only two legs and they are working so hard! Give them a break!

No I was walking and playing with toddlers all day.

I am at 39 days post Chevron osteotomy with subtalar implant. Just started limping around in a regular sneaker today.

We're all different, also although we have all had Bungion operations, the operations can vary a great deal.
