Acupuncture and Perimenopause

Has anyone done acupuncture to help perimenopause symptons?

If so , 1)What symptons did it help?2) How long before results?

3) Did they prescribe herbs along with it?

4) Did you have an side effect on first treatment?

I did my first acupuncture treatment on yesterday and she said she was concentrating on treating my stomach because of bloating and acid reflux really bad.

Well i felt really good afterward , so calm and peaceful. Later I noticed my stomach was very tender from the needles and seem to bloat more. She gave me herbs to take for the stomach and some to take for

for the perimenopause symptons. I was very skeptical about taking them but also desperate to find something that may help. I only tried the stomach , 2 capsules with meals. OMG! It bloated the stomach more , whereas my back was extremely aching and burning from the bloating. Thank God i didnt try the other one , (black round balls take 5 of them 2 times a day scares me) . I had a miserable night last night. Peri has never affected my sleep but last i was so uncomfortable for the bloating and aching back, very agitated. I want to hear from others of their experience with acupuncture, because im thinking of not proceeding with it.

I would like to add that around ovulation time i get the bloating and acid reflux really bad. Im approaching that time so it could be both ovulation and acupunture effect?

I’ve been using acupunture for over a year now, to treat major depression and anxiety...and I’ve had some amazing results from it. It actually had been a godsend when nothing else had helped. It seems to help the severity of the symptoms.

I have tried a few different acupuncturists since my very first treatment. Some in my experience are better/more knowlegeable than others. And it does seem to show in the results I’ve gotten.  I asked my current practitioner about treating my hormone imbalance during perimenopause, and she let me know she incorporates in the points she uses, those symptoms in my regular treatments, which I was thrilled to find out. The acu treatments I get during my cycle when I have bloat and pain, I find do help (not completely take away)  but help quite a bit the bloat and discomfort I’m feeling.

I haven’t been offered herbal remedies, but had thought about trying. Seeing a menopause specialist and will be asking the dr about this at my upcoming appt. I’d be happy to share anything I learn about his advice on herbal remedies. Did they mix an herbal formula or was it a specific single herb you were given? If it’s a mixture maybe they can break down for you what the capsules contain. There may be something within the formulation your body is sensitive to. I happen to be hyper sensitive to side effects to both herbals and meds. I don’t like to let it stop me from trying, 🙂 ... as I can relate to what you describe...in our desperation for relief, we want to try something that has potential to help.

Don’t give up on acu just yet. With the right practitioner it can be so helpful. I don’t usually experience soreness from the needles. Some people I’ve heard are sensitive in areas the points have been but usually it doesn’t last long. Sorry for such a long reply. I am definitely a huge fan of acupuncture!

Thank you for your reply and goid to know that acu does help! The practioner has over 30 years of experience and really good reviews. I am also very sensitive to just about everything too. She did say that the reason i could feel the pinch of the needle means that my stomach is really sensitive. She's definately right about that! The herb prescribed is a mixture of different herbs in the capsules. I researched all the herbs today and they all target a complaint of perimenopause and vice vesa for the stomach. Im used to taking chinese food based herbs, though these are

more medicinal..If i decide to give it another try i will reduce the capsule.

I’m so glad you have an experienced practitioner that you feel comfortable going to. It took me a few trys...until I  the found the right one...well worth the wait lol I LOVE my treatments and look forward to them, knowing it can provide some relief. That’s a great idea to try a smaller amount of the herb next time. being we are so sensitive less may work better for you. I hope to try something herbal for peri too.  Rather go the natural route whever possible. Have a good night.
