Hi. It took four weeks from seeing my GP who referred my to my sure on, to having my operation.
I had my pre-op assessment on Thursday and was operated on the following Tuesday. It was that quick.
So was it thr orre surface how did you get over it
It was a THR. (See my post of 28.11 where I describe how I am now). It is definitely worth having it done.
Hello Paul, I didn't have my done privately, but with regards to the sciatic pain. I do a low hamstring stretch (foot on step, pulled up toward body, straight leg and lift body up and over gently, also a gentle performis stretch (you will find explanations on the web), this takes the leg into external rotation and lastly sacral/lumbar extension on the bed (lie on stomach, rest up on elbows and gently press hip bones into the bed) I do these when my sciatic flares up, they help me. Obviously you do this before you have your operation, and you can always check with a physio that these exercises will be ok for you to do at this present moment
Hi Paul, I was being treated by an osteopath privately, after he had taken x-rays.......the other thing he was taking was my money and the treatment he was giving me was no help at all.
What he failed to inform me about the X-rays was that both femurs had worn through the pelvis and the pelvis had a lot of spurs as well which was why I couldn't open my legs very much, ie. to ride a bike or straddle a chair.
I had both hips done privately at the same time as well as bone grafts to repair the holes in the pelvis, the prosthesis was called Furlong and were uncemented (they do this mainly for younger people as they last longer) so the bone grows into the shaft. They were porcelain heads and set into a polyethylene cups. That was in 2001 and to date I have not had any problems at all other than at airports going through the scanners.
The surgeon (Mr John Targett) did the op at a time to suit me and it was the best thing ever, I was stood up the next day and walked a few steps and it just got better from there, I did all the exercises I was told to do and lots of walking and haven't looked back.
