Advice needed for sleep and meds please.

Alright so I've had a horrible past few nights.. it seems like my mind has an alarm set to wake me up around 1 am then at 4 am. Then I can't get back to sleep for at least an hour. If I try to sleep past that, my mind starts to race and I start to feel like im losing my mind or going crazy. I'll get up and try to do something and my vision is so blurry and I'm tired and confused/depersonalized. The first night it came on weird, I woke up around 1 or 2 am and felt like sh*t, then couldn't get back to sleep until around 5, woke up at 8 then slept like crap on and off until around 1. The entire day was horrible, I felt like I was going to drop dead and couldn't shake the anxiety. I took an ativan and got a little more sleep then the night before but was still not a full good night. Yesterday I felt okay, I was able to get up and do things. Then last night I fell asleep, woke up at 1 or 2 fell asleep until 4 then couldn't crash until 5 off and on til 8 then took an ativan and slept for an hour. I'm pretty anxious and feeling sick today now. I'm hoping tonight is better. I don't want to have to rely on ativan anymore. One doc told me I might be starting to show signs of bipolar disorder? I sure hope not..

Anyway, I'm starting to think about antidepressants I live in the US so if anyone knows any good ones that work with minimum side effects please let me know.... they put me on Lexapro and I couldn't get passed 2 days. Full blown headaches, no appetite, and no sleep. I couldn't get passed it. I would highly appreciate any insight on tips helping me sleep, tips on antidepressants and if this looks like bipolar please.....

Hi, sounds like your having a terrible time of it. I suggest you get advice from doc. Good luck

Im on mitazapine, helps you sleep and gives you appitite back so two things less to worry about, still have to go through anxiety but I have had two weeks now and yesterday had a marvellous day and now can control feelings better.  Sleep part does wear off and my sleep is not as solid as first two weeks but perhaps that is my body saying I am getting in control more. Good luck x

Firstly I would try going to bed at the same time every night and getting up at a set time in the morning, regardless of how you slept that night. Your body needs a routine and sounds like currently you don't have one. You may feel shattered for a few days but hopefully you will fall into a proper sleep pattern. I take sertraline and didn't have too many side effects so ask your doctor if it is available in the US.
