Advice needed re: Bad LS flare up

I have had LS for over 10 years, but have just started the worst flare up I have ever had. Feel like sitting on needles, pain when I pee, but I am worried because as well as the soreness, I have a brown watery speeage, has anyone else experienced this?  Went to docs yesterday got clob to use, he never even examined me. Just wondering if the clob will work correctly if I am constantly discharging. I am very scared and depressed, although I am not new to LS.

So sorry to hear that! If you have a discharge he should have done a swab/ examination to check what is going on! Is it a GP or specialist? If it is GP head straight to gyno - if it is the specialist I would change doctors immediately. Either way someone has not got your interest at hesrt. Try warm salt baths might help. Good luck

I am a little shocked he didn't examine you and take a culture - I say a LITTLE shocked because I know how doctors are. Where is the discharge coming from, are you sure it's not your back end or urethra?

Thank you for your reply, I don't think it is coming from back end or urethra, I think it is from very red sore labia.  I think I will have to go back to my GP.

Thank you, it is very distressing. I will defo go back to the GP and get it sorted.

Jaki, you mean you have weeping blisters on your labia? Is that where the discharge is coming from? If it's coming from inside, you need to see a gynaecologist. If you went to your GP for a clob prescription, well where I live GPs say 'only one problem per appointment'. Even if it's all on your labia, a gynae might want to biopsy a very ugly sore. I think you should really insist on an appointment with a gynaecologist.

Jaki, You need a new doc, someone that cares, isnt lazy....its hard to motivate yourself when you feel depressed, but you need to otherwise you could start feeling even worst..most GP arent that knowledgeable of this condition and so you really need to see a specialist that understands this condition.

I hope you let us know how you get on...I am worried for you.

Vulvar lichen planus has a discharge from the vagina similar to what you describe.  I think they use suppositories to treat.

Gosh Jaki that doesn't sound good.  First I would encourage you, like other people here, advise you to find another doctor/gyna as quickly as possible.

Meanwhile - try sitting in a baking soda bath (one third to half a cup)  This will help fight infection.  If you're not yet too fused up - use coconut oil in the entire area.  It'll help fight bacteria as well.  Just household remedies, but well worth using while you're waiting for an appointment.

And while you're sitting in that bath - try to relax.

Wishing you much strenght to pull through.

Hi jaki88,

sorry you're going through what sounds like an awful flare-up. I agree ...go back to your Gyn or dermatologist. Tell them about this discharge. Have you been using your clobetasol regularly? Perhaps its some sought of infection. The natural remedies can be soothing, Coconut oil, emu oil, sweet almond oil, evening primrose oil, etc. wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hi Jaki,  Just reading your post after a few days in hospital on another matter.  I just wanted to know how you are getting on.  If you haven't got it sorted yet you should as others say go back.  Do not ever ignore a discharge.  Insist on a second  urgent opinion and at the very least an exam and swab/investigation if not a referral to a dermatologist or gynae.  It is your body, do not be brushed aside, be strong.  I hope all is well. It is most likely a simple matter to put right.

Hi Chrisy and everyone else who has posted on this link.  I went back to another GP and she examined me and sent me straight to hospital. I had IV antibiotics to start with then onto tablet form which I am still on.  I was in for 3 days. I am out now, still in a lot of discomfort, using trimovate twice a day, I think it is going to be a slow job getting back to normal.

Whew, I'm so glad you got some proper treatment! These days three days in the hospital means it's quite serious. So, this really had nothing to do with lichen sclerosus? It was an internal infection of some sort?

They think it was LS which got infected, but haven,t had swab results yet. I need to contact. GP. I will have follow up appointment at gyn clinic when it has settled down.

LS got infected internally. Whoa. Up to now I thought LS wasn't inside the vagina, that Lichen Planus is inside. I have a series of little hard knobs that I assume are LS scar tissue and they trot up the back wall of my vagina and inch or so.

I think we may be finding among ourselves that some of the standard info about LS is a bit sketchy.

O my Jaki, it was pretty bad by the sounds of it - IV antibiotics and all.  But it stopped the flare up I'm sure.  Now back to restoring oneself.  Sending you lots of strength.

Proves also that the standard info is not all knowing either.

The LS hopped under my armpits for a while.  Big swelling.  But now, with baking soda and coconut oil treatment on its way back, where it came from. But where did it come from?

It's in our system!

I kept seeing the references to coconut oil but had not tried it as I did not expect it to have much impact.  I was surprised when finally trying it how soothing and comforting it was.  Using it at night makes a big difference.

Sounds like you have had a rough ride...let us know what the swab results are.  Glad you finally got treated.!!

It is good to hear that your finally being treated!!...hope you start to feel better soon.
