Advice on safe lifting weight after op

hi, I'm starting to think about my return to work after posterior repair, I'm a self employed cleaner and I want to buy a new Vacuum as most of my customers hoovers are heavy. Do you think something between 4 - 4.5kg would be safe enough? My check up isn't until 13 weeks as they forgot about me sad ! But just want to get organised. Thanks in advance x

Hello snuscoob. Do I take it that you are going back to work before 13 weeks? It will be at that appointment your consultant will tell you if your surgery has been successful and you can start lifting anything heavy so it's a bit difficult to give you an honest answer. However if everything is ok and as it should be 4kgs will be safe to lift.

Hi snuscoob, you never said when you had you surgery?

I have just had my anterior repair last Monday and I have to be off work for minimum of 6 weeks

may be more as I work in a ladies boutique 3 full days a week. I have a feeling it will be more like 8

Weeks to be safe. Until you have your post op check up you won't

Know how your have healed, and if its safe to return to work. Your

Work is very physical hun, best to be safe and go by your consultant,

Ad matron had advised. I wish yuou well lovely.take care.xxx

Hi no I'm going to wait until after my appointment, but customers are starting to ask when I'll be back so was going to start planning by adding my 'older ladies' that live in bungalows first! Then plan in the others gradually, just giving them dates. 10 weeks at mo and don't feel ready yet. Need a light weight vacuum for home anyway so will go away and look around 4kg! Thank you

I'm pleased you're waiting until after your appointment but I can imagine how much you'll have been missed by your customers. When you return to work be very strict with yourself and stick to what you've said, bungalows first then gradually work your way up.

Thanks welshgirl, how are you feeling now, my surgery was 10th Feb (10wks) I found the first 4 weeks very tiring but no pain, just the tightening of stitches around 5-6 so be careful if you are going back to work around then. I still can't stand for very long. My discomfort/ pain has been later on 7 weeks - now the swelling feeling of having a golf ball up your bum is starting to subside very slowly but still get pain in that area and in lower back. My mum has been a star and she is making sure I don't go back to work until I've been to my appointment I think he would like me to get a desk job but I'm trying to avoid child care costs cleaning allows me flexibility. Take care and lots of rest I was very strict that I didn't do any bending and picking up until 6 weeks mark. Good luck X

Hello hun, your doing very well then.. You have been very sensible I must say.

I'm like you I refuse to lift or bend till 6 weeks.. I won't bve back at work probably 7 or 8 weeks.

I'm on my feet all day,up and down stairs to stock room etc, its not worth

It.keep in touch and healing hugs.😘😘

Hi there I'm a week and a half after surgery my advice was crap when I left hospital I have found out most of my aftercare off Google. I'v got a sick note for 4 weeks and then a check up at my doctors at 6 weeks. I'm a beauty therapist so I do a lot of facials and full body massages so I don't really know how I stand on the whole going back to work and how much time I need off. Advice from you all would be greatly appreciated

Xxx

Standing for long periods following prolapse repair is very difficult to cope with, you will find it can be a bit painful and you will probably have a dragging sensation. To be perfectly honest Topsi I would wait as long as possible before you return to work, ideally around 12 weeks although I understand that is not always possible.

Thank you for the advice as I said my aftercare from the hospital was crap.xxx

What repair did you have topsi?had my anterior lady Monday.I'm 6 days post op.xx

Sorry I meant repair not Lady lo?!!

Matron, please advise me, I had my operation on Tuesday, the same day emptied my bowels a lot not been since

took two lots ducalx in hospital over last two days took movicol and three Senna tummy going hard had some wind no movement day 5 no poo

Like a lot of hospitals Topsi. Not good enough really.

Are you drinking water and eating plenty of fruit and veg hun..this is very very important. Xx

Hello Gillian. If you don't manage to go by tomorrow morning get someone to go to a pharmacy and buy some glycerin suppositories. You'll easily manage to use them (2) and that will get you moving nicely. You'll probably never need them again but you've just become constipated and obviously don't want to push too hard. They are perfectly safe to use. Obviously the usual advice which you'll know such as drinking lots of water, prune juice is excellent from any supermarket xx

I had rectocele prolapse repair and I'm 10 days post surgery. I had a bleed during surgery so they kept me in.xxx

Oh no I hope your OK now.how long were you in for?x

Topsi is there anything you need to know about post op advice because you're only 10 days and must rest especially as you had a complication during your operation?

Only a day but hated every moment. The doctors forgot about me when they were doing there rounds I had to ask them look at how much I was bleeding before I went to the toilet. I told one of the nurses that I needed the toilet and she told me to wait and have my breakfast 1st. Nobody explained aftercare to me iv had to Google most of it. So I'm very glad iv found this group. I'm OK now still finding it hard to sit on my bum and get comfortable. I'm not nor a person that can sit down and do nothing so this to me is a bit frustrating. How do you feel now?.xxx
