advice please??

I have my first appointment with the psychiatrist in a week. I'm nervous as I don't know what to expect, and I'm not entirely sure WHY I actually have to see one. I started seeing my doctor regularly 9 months ago and since my meds have been switched and changed for anxiety and depression, which I am now taking venlafaxine 37.5mg twice daily, and occasionally Zopiclone and diazepam.

my doctor has basically told me there's nothing else she can help me with, and any concerns to let the psychiatrist know when I see him/her, although I think in the last two months my symptoms have changed majorly. before I was just depressed all the time, and now I'll sometimes be overconfident and somewhat hyperactive for several days. I am now also always irritable and easily angered, my sleeping will range from not sleeping at all (eg now) to sleeping for 12+ hours. there's no inbetween with anything, im either majorly high or majorly low.

Dear Danielle, please do not worry in the slightest about your upcoming appointment with a psychiatrist......

It really is the best thing that could happen to you., they will be able to help you so much more.... just by talking to you and maybe asking you a few questions, they will be able to plan and prescribe the most suitable medication treatment for you.... they will also arrange more support for you, such as a CPN....COMMUNITY PSYCHIATRIC NURSE... OR A PSYCHOLOGIST..., also they can help in many other ways if it is needed....

They are very kind, as they have chosen this career, all they want to do is to help you as much and in every way that they possibly can. ....

I have met soooo! Many psychiatrists and others in the mental health system, for both myself and my son's, over the years, I have almost lost count..... but I can honestly say I have never ever, ever. Met any that I disliked in any way whatsoever.....

Please, do not worry, their aim and priority is to help you live your life happily and more relaxed....they can prescribe the very best medication regime for you, to help with any and all of your difficulties....I wish you all the very, very, very best, please let us know how you get on.... great bugs hugs to you, you will be in my thoughts , sincerest wishes to you, Deirdre xxx

Hi there, your symptoms sounds like what I had for a while before I had a blood test done and I found out I had overactive thyroids, which has now been corrected.

Hope this helps.

Like Deidre said do it be afraid they are only there to help. I saw my psychiatrist for the first time last week. What we talked about made perfect sense it is just up to me to put it into practice. I have to see him again in about 3 weeks. He is also arranging more counselling for me.

What you have put in your first discussion sounds like you are having quite severe mood swings,, you must tell the psychiatrist this, because he can prescribe medication that a GP cannot prescribe without specialist advice.

Try not to worry you will be fine and if it gets you out of this black hole then it will be worth it. Good luck, hugs sent.
