I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect when I go for my first neurology appointment. Having gone to the GP and explained some of my stmtoms she decided to refer me straight away
I experience the tingling, numbness and almost flickering in my legs, my walk has changed, my left arm often cramps and hand numbs, I have a slight tremor and just generally odd body sensations as well as being really sensitive to light. Without asking she told me her concern was MS. I also experience sharp stabbing pains in my lower back and sometimes when waking have a real tightness in my ribs and numb hands. It all sounds a bit long winded as I write it down and I'm trying not to be hyper vigilant but getting to the point! I'd like to know if this is something others have experienced and what to expect from my first neurologist appointment. Many thanks in advance
Hi I got sent from the gp as urgent and have seen the neurologist and had a brain and spine mri and getting the results in just over a week. At my appointment the neurologist asked about my life and symptoms then he checked my eyes and reflexes along with some other little checks then he decided to send me for an mri which was put threw as urgent and I had my bloods done on the way out.i was there less than an hour.
Its good to hear that your doctor is on the ball and that she wishes to move things along quickly for you.
I would guess that your neurologist will sort out a full mri scan, an evoked potential test and lumbar puncture. These would be standard procedures . Plus possibly a course of vitamin D supplements.
I hope things work out for you. Take care
Please get full MRI of neck, back and brain looking for lesions and ask for a spinal tap too check for banding, and please do not use a neurologist, seek out a MS specialist neurologist.
Thanks all for the advice. I
If I was just to see a general neurologist would that make much of a difference?
If you can get your reg dr to run the MRI scans of your brain, neck and spine and get a spinal tap done to check for lesions on the MRI and banding in the spinal fluid. If the test come back with both, I would take the results to a MS specialest. From my own experance and that from others I know, reg nero` s are useless. The MS specialest will run a bunch of blood work too then rule out other stuff but with
lesions and banding the good chance of MS is there with the systems you are having.
