Advice please.

Hi all. I STUPIDLY brought a BP machine yday which can detect irregular heart beats. Of course when I took mine the irregular button flashed. Now is this cause for concern or can anxiety cause this and not actually be real? It says to see a doctor if I keeeps saying irregular. I took it three time and twice it showed irregular. Then all night my BP was so high. Had so many ecgs all come back clear and had extensive tests too. What shall I do? sad

Hi Les

I bought a watch that didect my heart. Rate.. It. Is. User. Friendly.. When I see that. My heart beats faster. I calm down. I try not to think a lot. Another thing that help me is I am using Madi cation that calm me down.

If u see the flashing heart beat irregular 3times in a row then go see ya doc best thing I ever bought was finger pulse oxymeter it shows heart oxygen n abnormal rhythm luckily mines never shown abnormal so far xx

BP machine is just a machine. It may help you. But you can validate the result through looking to your pulse rate: normal is 60-100 per minute or use BP apparatus: normal 120/80. You may also use other BP machine to make sure you get similar results.

In addition, check your temp and respiratory rate (12 to 20 breaths per minute)

Through these vital signs, you can identify if it's something to worry about or not.

ECGS have never showed irregular but then it did twice yesterday, I don't know if it is serious or not. Hmmmm my doctors normally dismiss me - apparently anxiety can cause irregular heart rate, I don't know what to do. I had oximeter before but smashed it up, might have to do the same with this things.

My pulse is always fine, I don't know if to be worried about it flashing irregular though! what do you think?

A BP machine that can detect an irregular heart rhythm? Really? Never heard of this as a nurse. What is the product called? I am curious. Usually you have to take your pulse manually to detect an irregular heart beat. I would take your pulse manually when the machine detects an irregularity to correlate it. A "normal" pulse (rate) is 60 to 100 but many things can affect it. My heart rate goes up to 105, 107 when I am not having a panic attack and it is normal for me. I see a cardiologist and have had every test in the book and he says some people just have higher heart rates. I would be more concerned about the irregularity such as in A-fib. Anxiety causes rapid heart rate but not irregularities. Unfortunately in this day and age we rely to much on machines. I believe YouTube might have a video on how to manually take your pulse so you will not have to rely on a machine. Wishing you the best!

Ah, I hade avoided getting a BP machine because I know it would make me worry if it was even slightly abnormal. If your ecgs have always been normal, then I would guess either the machine is faulty or not quite positioned correctly or that you have something like ectopic heartbeats. This is not uncommon with anxiety or stress, you skip a beat and the next one is really strong. If you really do have an irregular heartbeat I expect you will be able to feel it in your chest when it happens. As Celia mentioned, try to validate by manually taking your pulse or using another machine. There is an app you can use on your phone that uses the camera to measure pulse and if you keep your finger still seems to work OK ish and I can see ectopic beats on it when I'm really nervous. If you are still concerned then go see a nurse to check out your pulse and if everything else says it is normal then I'd ditch your machine if it's triggering anxiety.

I agree with Celia.
