I have been dealing with anxiety for about 4 months now and its getting out of hand. I have been told by several doctors there is nothing wrong and it is stress but for some reason I can't get that through my head. it started one evening when I woke up in a pool of sweat. i immediately had my girlfriend take me to the emergency room where they found nothing. Then another morning I woke up with a bad bout of vertigo which was fixed the best day by a doctor. But that is where it gets worse. now I'm afraid to go to bed wondering whats going to happen next. I do have high blood pressure which has been kept under control. to make a long story short I started to get heart palpitations when I was trying to fall asleep. it kept getting worse to the point I was and am still barely sleeping. everytime I try to nap or sleep I get the palpitations and a feeling of an adrenaline rush throughout my body and I think there is something wrong with my heart even though I've been to emergency room twice, numerous EKGs and 2 stress tests that tells me my heart is fine. yet I'm scared as hell everyday a d now to the point its effecting my job and I'm even afraid to walk the dog or even shower thinking something is going to happen to me or my heart. it consumes my thoughts and I need it to stop. has anyone felt the same palpation and adrenaline rush feeling. can anyone offer advise?
sorry you are going through this Joe. But all your symptoms are very common with stress and anxiety. I know it’s hard to believe, but anxiety symptoms can mimic other health conditions so people think they have something serious when it’s actually caused by anxiety.
I have had all of your symptoms starting in my 20s suddenly including sweating, palpitations, vertigo and lightheadedness, along with numerous other symptoms. I was terrified .
all my testing came back perfectly normal. I was shocked. I thought how could this be? Something has to be wrong. But in reality, the only thing wrong was unmanaged stress and anxiety.
i’m telling you that I am now in my 50s and doing very well., so you know the symptoms are not harmfull. im very healthy. what I had was long-term unmanaged anxiety and stress.
You are healthy too!The sweat could’ve been caused by a nightmare that you don’t remember. Many people who have anxiety get these and then the adrenaline kicks in. you may not even remember the dream. I was told that by a cardiologist when I was explaining to him my rapid heartbeat and panicky feeling when I wake up. (back in my twenties)
Think of what in your life may be causing anxiety, stress. work, family, relationships? there can be underlying anxiety you may not be aware of.getting some counseling also helped me a lot. It’s great to have some support for this.
Please remember that adrenaline is released which causes the heart to speed up. This is not harmful! i’m sure you have heard of the fight or flight response well that’s exactly what it is. it’s the body preparing for " Battle ". this response has been around since the beginning of humans. there are millions of people around the world with anxiety who get this adrenaline feeling, you’re definitely not alone! I had it for many years and finally decided enough is enough.
it’s not the symptoms that are The problem, the problem is unmanaged anxiety and stress which caused the symptoms.
there are some really great talks and meditations on YouTube for anxiety that really help calm you down! Also, if you are feeling particularly panicky with your heart racing, go to YouTube and search for something called stop panic attacks now. Then scroll down to one called don’t panic. It’s in black bold letters. She will guide you through it and it’s very effective! It will bring down your heart rate and make you feel at ease.
also search for meditations for breathing. Breathing properly is the key to bringing the heart rate down.
Your heart has been proven to be very healthy. You don’t have to worry about that. Work on reducing the anxiety.
So this is what I suggest for you …
- if possible, get some counseling for this. Even if you don’t think you have anxiety, it may be underlying and a counselor can help you with this and help you manage better so you feel better!
- listen to some of those meditations. They are very helpful. I still listen to them every night when lying down to sleep. another site on YouTube that is good is called the anxiety guy. He talks about how to deal with anxiety.
3.keep busy and keep your mind occupied and positive things. The more you fret over the symptoms, the more symptoms you will have because you will be telling your brain that something is wrong. Then you get that fight and flight response. - get some exercise and eat healthy. Exercise helps you relax.
- when you get a negative or scary thought, calmly watch that thought float off and disappear. Be relentless and do it every time. Then go do something fun or think of something positive instead. You have to retrain your brain.
- LET IT GO that’s what I had to do in order to move on with my life and be happy. I trusted that I was healthy and just lived my life. All my testing was normal so I decided I wasn’t going to worry about my health unless I absolutely had to. Every day I spent with worry, I never got that day back. Wasted days. Take care
