Hi Im in need of some advicd and hooefully a piece of mind!! I went to the ER a few days ago and had a very nervous and new nurse put in my IV. I noticed AFTER she did it that she didn't use gloves while preparing the tools to stick me. Im HIGHLY concerned of gettinh bacterial in my bloodstream, causing an infection and possible sepsis!! I called my GP.... And he said as long as I don't have. Fever I should be fine but Im still sooooo worried... Not sure if I should go back to the ER and havs them check me?!?!
Ho boy, sepsis anxiety. I know that all too well. I think you'll be fine, it's hospital protocol to sanitize one's hands before and after touching patients or handling equipment after all. If you notice pain and a bright red line traveling along your vein line you should get it checked out, but it's frankly pretty unlikely you'll have any issues. I wish you all the best.
Thank you for your reply!! Yea Im freaked out... Nurse was shaking and stood there looking like she had no idea what to do!!!! Come to find out it was her first IV!! So im worried. You would think I would be showing signs by now if I Did catch something???
Even a newbie should know well enough to keep her hands clean, otherwise they would've have let her anywhere near a patient. If this happened a few days ago you're alright, most sepsis cases from injury and needles set in pretty quickly. Keep an eye on it if you're worried but I'm 99% positive you'll be fine.
Thank you so much for your reply back! Its helps hearing it from someone else on the outside of my thoughts and can rationalize it and help me. I'd hate to go back to the ER... Just for them to look at me crazy and say Im ok.. But the constant need for reassurance is killin me
