First of all, wondering if this chat is still on as I have not seen a postings for a while.
I am now 4 months post Full Hip Replacement surgery and am still feeling slight pain and tenderness after sitting for a while. Once I start to walk I am fine after about 30 seconds to a minute. I was just wondering if this was normal or if any of you Hippies have experienced this. Thank you.
hi mark,
warm welcome to the hippies forum ...
I am not sure what you mean by not seeing any postings ... usually you get postings when you either start your own discussion (like now) or have responded to one ...
but the forum is still here with wonderful members with whom you can share your story with ....
It is not abnormal to feel stiffness and some discomfort to get up from sitting to standing and starting to walk - healing is still taking place and my surgeon told me that it can take up till 18 months post-op ... I did not believe him, but have to say that he seems to be right - it is different for everybody but it sounds that you are doing well -
come here anytime you have a concern or question or just want to share ...
big warm hug
renee
Hi Mark, yes it is normal, is it on both sides? if it is only on one side you could have an inflammed bursa, which will get better. Also is the chair you sit in, a suitable fit, if it is a tight fit that could also cause you discomfort. It takes up to 2 years for all the muscles to heal my surgeon told me. I am 21 months in and still get occasional discomfort, but my IT band also gets tight still especially if I have overdone things.
Check alsdo how you are sitting, we can fall into bad habits when we think we are better. Evne now i sometimes cross my ankles, then think no! . Good luck
Dear Mark
It is still quite early days but I do understand your concerns.
Last week at about five weeks weight bearing I decided to put a spare set of wheels onto my car which is quite a physical job. It also involved some carrying and lifting which was all fine until later in the day.
My hip started to ache but I was not overly worried as I had full movement even though my hip felt a little tender. Perhaps a little too much a little too soon in my case!
Yes normal..I'm 5 months out from LTHR.
I'm 64 so yep I experience some stiffiness.
This aging stuff isn't for sissies for sure.

Thank you Renee. I had not registered until yesterday so that may be why I could not see posts for a while.
Thank you for your comments and some of the others which makes me feel better. I seem to get better every day but just getting a little impacient, I guess.
Thanks again and a warm hug to you as well.
Thank you Auntiebeanie, I don't think I have an inflamed bursa however I did have an inflamed Arterior about 3 weeks after the surgery. This did go away pretty quickly though. I try to sit as high up as possible but that is not always possible. It is still very diffcult getting up from a low seat or position. I a getting better, slowly but surely. Thank you for the response.
Thank you RichardKen. Yes, at 5 weeks, putting a new tire on a car would be painful. Kind of like Physio the next day. Keep up the good work and keep with your physio. It is very important.
Thank you Vickie, that is very reassuring. I guess I just need to stick with the excercises and physio.
Dear Mark
Thanks. It was all four wheels! I've spoken to the physio who says it is likely to just be muscle pain and to rest. Hope she is right as it is not really improving and I feel as if it is in the joint....oh dear!
Cheers Richard
Richard, yes, take it easy. 4 Wheels, WOW. I would have been on my bed for a few days.
Dear Judith and Mark
I am trying to take it easy for a bit and hope that I've not been a bit too ambitious!
Hope you are both progressing well.
Cheers Richard
