Hi Aly,
I have been taking 20mgs for nearly 3 weeks a feel a little better. The mornings seem to be the worst, very anxious and feeling sick but it passes. I was told that it could take 4 to 5 weeks to feel anything at all so we must hang in there.. Good Luck and your not alone.
Margaret
I'm the same. I've been on and off Citalopram for about 5 years. Had a major traumatic event prior to Christmas and by end of January I knew I'd need to go on them again as the attacks of anxiety were increasing. Started on 10mg for a week and I'm now a week and a half into taking 20mg. Feel worst in the morning, and not sleeping great but I improve as day goes on.
Been here before so I know I have to be patient and let the medication rebalance the serotonin and that takes time but its hard to be patient and not get frightened that it wont work this time.
I also get a racing pulse from time to time as a side effect and that's horrible
hi, and thanks. yes will ahng on..and give it more time, its just these dull headaches are driving me mad now...theyre not constant mainly eves. but annoying nevertheless.
will keep you both posted and good luck and all the best to you both too. thankyou again.

Aly, I'd also recommend drinking camomile tea and lots of water. The camomile I find really helps when I'm feeling at my most anxious and will drink it and no tea or coffee until I start to feel much better.
I can tell you need a lot of support right now. I know how you feel - you feel you must be the only one like you, a bit silly, that you should just pull yourself together. I have a really good gp and she told me that I should just think of this as a chemical imbalance in the same way that diabetics have a chemical imbalance. It's easy to get caught up in the \"stigma\" of anxiety etc. Hard to be patient, but stick with it and try to keep busy. Remember to rest when you need to though.
replied to your other message carol..thankyou again..will take advice
take care aly x
Just to reiterate what other people have said. I've been taking citalopram for over a year now moving from 10mg up to 40. The first two weeks were hell but hang on in there they really do work - feeling better now than I have done for a very long time.
Hi everyone,
Just to let you know that today started really well, so positive, then this evening a drug crazed driver smashed our car and van and that set anxiety through the roof. Fortunately no-one was hurt but finding hard to cope with the situation. Just hope I can sleep ok and tomorrow things might look better.
Such is life. Margaret
