After beginning to feel good another problem appears!!

after being on pred for a year now and having many problems as everyone does, I have felt so much better for the last few weeks I have done things I've not been able to do for a long time.

I was able to do a few hours volunteering at the school I used to work at as a teaching assistant. Much of this made possible by being treated by a lovely Bowen therapist. I had much more energy and had reduced down to 10mg.

i was just thinking about reducing again after a month on that dose when things changed.

I was feeling very emotional, very stressed for no reason and having irrational thoughts. I saw my GP about my prescription and she took my blood pressure which was high. I am now recording it for a week before returning  to see her.

i didn't have high blood pressure before. Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Elaine

Raised BP can be one of the side effects of pred  (I suspect it can also be a side effect of PMR). I had had raised BP for some time when it and atrial fibrillation were diagnosed a couple of years ago - but every time it had been checked in the previous couple of years it had been fine. They knew it had been raised for some time because an echocardiogram showed thickening of the ventricle wall in my heart.

I'd stick at 10mg for a bit longer and get the BP sorted out - is your cholesterol also raised? Pred can do that too - but personally I wouldn't opt for statins though that is another story.

Hi Elaine, my blood pressure has taken on a life of its own!  I had high blood pressure which was under control, prior to starting on Pred.  I am now taking 3 pills for it and it appears to be under control again.  I don't have the same conditions as you.  I started on Pred 3 years ago and finally stopped taking it 2 weeks ago.  So far, not taking it, has made no difference to my BP but, I live in hope!

Elaine.I am looking for connectios.First I had Diabetes, the n Glaucome. The diabetes and Glaucoma arrived during a period of intensely stressful situations

Then came SSS.Slow heartbeat treated by Pacemaker.insertion.

Next told I had high blood pressure.Put on Amlopodine.  A few days later PMR.

Autoimmune system compromised.??  Has to be a connextion I believe. Eileen too had SSS..

Is stress the first brick in the wall to break???

Thanks Eileen, that's what I wanted to know, although it's just into the high zone I'll see what the GP says in a few days time.

The recommendation for the bowen therapist was brilliant , she's very good and effective so some things are going in the right direction.

i do have high cholesterol and do take a low dose of  statin which I don't really like very much.

I had moderately high blood pressure before PMR, controlled by low dose medication.  PMR and/or prednisone sent my BP through the roof!  It's somewhat under control with further medication, but I have to monitor it on a regular basis.

Thanks everyone, it seems to me whatever our circumstances we all have a lot in common and stress  always seems to be there somewhere along with a few other nasty symptoms and conditions.

Mrs mop I do hope you get where you want to be with your blood pressure, and I too think there are lots of connections.

As I've said before this condition really does seem to be a winding road that we all want to get to the end of.

I would definitely say yes.  My experience and another family member both had stress big time - then PMR.  Mind you only on looking back did we recognise that we would have been under stress you never realy notice it at the time just cope day by day and it takes someone else to mention that "you must have been under quite a bit of stress" for one to really think about it.
