I am having carpal tunnel surgery on both hand Tuesday, would like to know how recovery over a couple weeks is? What kinda things am I going to have trouble doing ect?
There are a number of different factors, including, most importantly, what kind of surgery you are having. If it's open surgery, it will take longer to heal than laprascopic, plus you would have heavier bandages for longer. For the first couple of days, though, I would expect you might find it difficult to do much of anything with your hands, as they will be sore and swollen. Follow the recommendations you are given for movement and exercises. I had the open surgery and couldn't do much for at least a week, but the laprascopic is much easier to get past, or so many have said. Good luck.
It is laparoscopic and I will have tigger finger taken care of too. Is there any special things I should have around to make life easier?
Are you going to have anyone looking after you, or be around if you need them..? as you will have both hands bandaged and you will not beable to lift, or get them wet. But keep them both elevated up past your heart to keep swelling down. I wish you well and let us know how you go on..
Wouldn't advise you to do both hands at the same time ...revovery varies...while i was back out to work the next day my mom was around for a week to assist with my daughter....my previous post was wuite derailed re my experience.....i really hope your surgeon is experienced....good luck
I've been so unlucky and I don't want to make you nervous about your surgery, just make sure you have a very good reputable surgeon, and insist on a follow up soon after surgery...good luck!
I had open surgery anyway, but for the first two weeks, thank God it was just the one hand. With both hands done, even the most basic of tasks would be impossible on your own, and yes I am talking about basic bodily functions! For the first week I don't think I could have lifted a coffee cup with my hand, let alone do anything more challenging, I think it was week three before it got anywhere near to being operational again.I hope yo have help at home........! Good luck, I hope it goes well.
Hello Sue Anne! I had open surgery on my dominant hand. Was told to use the hand from the day after the surgery as much as possible, but to avoid heavy lifting. Problem though was the filled bandage, so I couldn't use the h a n d when I had it on for 2 weeks. I could use the f i n g e r s though. Follow the instructions, exercises. It has been a year now and I have increased the use of the hand and still am. Sensitive fingertips is my worst problem.
