After Green Light surgery, Post Operation bleeding

My GL surgery was 11/14/17, it went well, I had the catheter remove after 3 days, very little bleeding, cranberry red for a few days, and occasional small amounts of clotted blood material, was normally urine. Just now, I excreted large stringy blood clotted material, looked like a bloody worm, then lots of blood, this 3 weeks after GL surgery. Is this normal, should I see a doctor? I am alarmed, as its 3 weeks after a normal experience, please comment so I do not panic

Bill, don't let it worry you to much as this can happen ocassionaly following a GL or HoLEP procedure.

In my case it happened 11 days following my procedure and was quite severe and resulted in my having to be admitted as an emergency but I must stress mine was a severe bleed which wouldn't stop and needed seeing to rapidly.

It's usually caused by the wound scab coming away after some strenuous activity which has been carried out to soon which was the case with me.

Yes, I would seek medical attention if the bleeding continues and I mean bleeding and not pink stained urine which would in normal circumstances clear up after a few days.

The usual treatment is for a catheter to be inserted to allow the open wound area to scab up again which would be difficult if you were passing urine over it.

Be patient and in a few weeks time it will just seem like a bad dream and you will be peeing like a 19 year old again.  Good luck

Can't hurt to call docs office and let then know.

There are many things that they will not tell you prior to surgery. This condition could continue on and off for a couple of months until it wears off although you should have it checked for a possible infection.
