I had lateral sphincterotomy done 3 days ago. 3.5 to be exact as it's the middle of the night right now. I did a huge mistake of not checking the anal area after the surgery before going for my first BM. After it, as i was cleaning myself using wet hands, I noticed that I have what seemed like a prolapse, but one I could not easily push back, and since I didn't know if this is normal after the operation or not, I didn't insist. But after these 3.5 days the blood vessels have only increased in size, and in spite of all the NSAIDs, local lydocaine and oral tramadol, the pain is persistent and now the itching has started and it is becoming unbearable. Right now. I tried to explain the situation on the phone yesterday to my surgeon but he didn't seem to understand and I took it that it is probably just the inflammation after the surgery. But since not even Tramadol seems to be calming down the pain, and since now I am starting to have itching as well, I am very unsure of what to do. Should I try to push in what seems to be prolapsed blood vessels? Another thing: before the surgery, one thing I did after every defecation was a sitz bath. This helped me a great deal to relax my anus, but I was told not to do this after my surgery. I am thinking of going against my surgeon's advice for one time just to see if I can releave the pressure and pain. Thoughts?
my hat off to you for having had the courage to go through the surgery! But with barely 3.5 days after surgery, I WOULD SUGGEST TO ASK TO BE SEEN BY THE SURGEON TO MAKE SURE WHAT YOU DESCRIBE IS normal. (the caps were an error). also, if they told you to hold on the sitz bath, there must be reason for it. find out if its ok to apply an ice pack to ease the pain.

no problem having baths i had to and I had no issues with that. The scar from surgery was quite large at first. We cant answer what it is that you are seeing but surely your surgeon will check it out or post it online for an opinion. The pain etc from surgery will take time to heal. I was told to have no pain killers except Ibuprofen. Sitting on a hot wheat bag is still the best pain relief you can get in my experience.

I am worried that, if this is a prolapse of my haemorrhoids, after some time there will start to be thrombosis in these blood vessels. They have been getting harder, and the prolapse bigger.
The fact that neither of the two commenters in this post has mentioned that the prolapse is normal, worries me.
Is the prolapse normal in this procedure?

I would assume that the dr who performed the surgery or his/her assistants should be able to answer all your concerns, especially since you had surgery just a few days ago.
