I was diagnized as prostate cancer with Gleason score 7. After radical prostectomy, intraductal carcinoma was found in cut lymph node 1 out of 12. what is general % of recurrence of the cancer. Now what i am supposed to do.
i cannot think of anything except healthy diet.
Sorry to hear of your problem. Whilst mine is bladder cancer, my understanding is that all theurethal cancers are highly recurrent. Mine has returned twice over a 7 year period (last about 8 months ago).
Your experience of the lack of guidance from your doctors is all too familiar, which is reprehensible given that there is lots of evidence of what patients can do to enhance their own survival time.
Some may seem obvious, but it is surprising how many cancer patients do persist in bad lifestyle habits. So here's my list:
1: stop smoking (quite a few continue)
2: exercise: those who walk more live longer. I try to do over an hour/day - averaging about 10,000 steps/day. I supplement this is what is called high-inensity training: short 20" bursts interwoven with 2' easy (I use an exercycle; others do running/jogging).
3: 'healthy diet' perhaps begs the question as to what is healthy - alas, what it is changing all the time (I've been following this for 40 years and seem quite a few reversals). But the weight of evidence is coming down to little or no sugar or alcohol. Little carbs. Maybe a good helping of greens, especially broccoli. For me, I think the evidence is weighing in favour of some meat (lamb).
4: Good oral hygiene (the gums are a source of inflammation, a known cancer stimulant).
5: Try to keep your waist to less than half your height.
6: monitor your cancer between doctor consultations with molecular cancer markers (I do 3-4 each month, perhaps excessive, but lately they've been rising too high for comfort and I can afford them).
I hope this helps
To begin, my best wishes to you. Do you have a choice of where you can get medical care? If so, find a Doctor on the staff of a large regional teaching hospital. New cancer treatments are being developed constantly and these large well-funded institutions are going to be up on the latest methods. That's exactly what I would do If I had that choice. Again, my best to you.
Dear RonTexan
Thank you very much. What kinds of the new latest methods are available?
With best regards
I am currently on Abiratereone and steriods. It costs £900 a week and having been told 12 months ago I had a year to live. My last three scans indicate that the cancer has shrunk back and there are no new growths.
i believe that the rules have changed and it can only be prescibed after cemotherapy where mine was before. The cancer has to be stage 4. i know that not every one can tolerate it but if you can its a whiole new ball game.
Some consultants dont like it because of the cost. but it doesnt come out of thier own pocket/
Worth looking into.
Good Luck Peter
I'm sorry, I just meant to say that our medical cures in all areas of medical care are known in the large, well-funded teaching hospitals. I know that is true from my own experience, from what I have read and from advice I have received from other medical professionals. I did not mean to imply that I know what the lastest developments are. I have not had cancer but if I should in the future I will find a physician who is up on the very latest knowledge and those large insttutions is where you will find them. My best to you.
