Hi all, hope you are doing well.

I was told 3 months....
Hi,
Was told short distance 6 weeks wait, long haul 3 months.
Best wishes.
I have been told not for 6 weeks before and 3 months after.
Hi,I managed a short flight from UK to Grenoble at 4weeks post op...I had my hip added to the travel insurance...at 4 weeks I was still using a walking stick but I the staff at Gatwick and Grenoble were very helpful and made the journey comfortable and easy...just to say they offered their assistance but would help if asked......I wore my DVT stockings for the flights...
i will be a year post op tomorrow, during this year I have had many international flights,
these days I now carry my own luggage and enjoy a new pain free life...
i think as long as you feel comfortable with your intended journey then go for it..
oh yes at the security scan they did take my stick away for X-ray but were otherwise very helpful..
wishing you a speedy recovery and if you do decide to travel have a great journey..
Hi
Does new hip set alarm off when going through security at airport and do you carry a medical card stating you have metal in you. I believe you can get medical card from hospital, save embaresment
Glyn
My friend who had her right hip done same day as me just came back from Lisbon portugal and she was quite miffed she didn't set off alarm ha ha we got given a card when we had the op so ask your consultant next time Yu see him
Thanks I will ask consultant when I go back for 6 week check.
I won't be miffed if alarm dosn't go off, I am always stopped and searched, guess I must look guilty.
Hi Glyn my consultant told me last week at my 6 week appointment that I just need to tell security before i go through that I have a hip replacement and that they don't give cards anymore as anyone eg. Terrorists, could give give a card and say they had a hip replacement, if they wanted to check they could do so on the national hip registry.
I was told that I could travel after 4 week pre op if I had already booked a holiday otherwise it's wise to wait after you've had your post op assessment which is 6 weeks.
In my case I opted for the later .
P'S Always inform staff that you had hip replacement when you travel , so that you do not have to go tgrough the scanner (body search) as it's will set the alarm off but not harmful as those who had pace maker .
