(AGED 31) Hello, it is two years this month (April 06)since I bought to my GP's attention my acid reflux's. I had been suffering for some years prior to this but just kept loading in the Rennies with no real effect.
One morning I went to the doctors after having a severe reflux during the night. My oesophagus was so tight I found it hard to breathe, my doc thought I was having heart problems, but put in down to the acid burning the oesophagus, she put me on 5/10mg of Zoton as an acid blocker, I found this helped greatly but after about six month found the acid creaping back, so was then prescibed 30mg of Lansoprazole, one a day, which was great, worked fine. But I was concered about long term usage of the tablets and they were only masking the problem, so with help of my GP we consulted the Gastro department at the local hospital,Musgrove in Taunton, where over the last 18 month have gone through various tests, ultrasounds,2x endoscopy's,they found I had two ulchers in the lower stomach and the heli b bateria, they cleared this up with tablets. Also I have had Ph monitoring, tube up nose into stomach for 24hrs to measure the acid level, not nice.
They have now said I have a hiatus hernia and have put me on the waiting list (6-9months) for surgery to correct this by means by the GORD sphincter corrections thing. I have been given the leaflet which says a little about the op, but has any had it done recently who could tell me their experience of the after surgery, recovery time, eating, acid etc. I look forward to any replies..Alistair
