When do the panic attack stop xxx I have been on clomipramine hydrochloride for years, they have taken them off the market for some reason, and I have been put on citalopram' I was 10mg for 1week and been on20mg. For3 weeks
Hi glenys,
Why did they up your dose so fast on citalopram, did they say?
Citalopram takes anywhere from 4 - 8 weeks to fully integrate into your system, in this time your panic attacks and anxiety will increase dramatically, these are the side effects of all antidepressants.
They should have told you it gets worse before it gets better and they should have also let the first dose settle in before upping you, even if you were on something before, this is a new medication, it's like starting from scratch.
I'm not surprised the panic attacks you're having are worse to be honest, I gave up on citalopram after 5 days as the side effects for me were too intense, I was having panic attacks round the clock and didn't eat at all or sleep more than 2 hours for 5 days, I almost went clinically insane, considered sectioning myself. It took diazepam, beta blockers and another antidepressant to put me right again.
Ask your doctor for beta blockers, they WILL help, they stop the initial release of adrenalin to stop panic attack symptoms, for me they are a life saver.
Hope you're better soon.

Thanks, I don't no wheather to go back to 10 or not , or go cold turkey and stop tab altogether
If I am but mistaken that TCA is implemented mainly for Ocd or was.
May I ask what your taper and titration switch scale was if there was one?
And yes they will stop or if not they can be made to stop there are many different therapies so do not worry about this aspect.
I change doc , she change tab now I am so bad , tab been taken off prescription for some reason, I'm 66 , and I feel like I did so many years ago x
I will find out the status of Clomipramine for you, but in the meantime is your Doctor reachable?
Are you saying you were instantly switched to another med? How long were you taking Clomipramine?
Yes,,, and been on them for years,
This is simply wrong and very bad practice.
In a way though this makes it pretty clear that this is simply discontinuation syndrome and side effects of starting a new one i.e Citalopram. Panic attacks were only brought on by this is that correct?
Yes , I used to have panic attac years ago and I got over them good, till now good job I have a good husband to support me , I would be loss without him
So is that your only symptom?
Are you diagnosed with any specific anxiety disorder other than panic disorder?
It is good that you have that support maybe discuss with him what action is best to take at this time, and a Doc who is competent and helpful.
