I'm not sure about the link to alcohol and the link to anxiety. I am a heavy drinker but i find it mellows me out every evening and anything that calms the fright is good in my book.
I'm also on 50mg a day on sertraline for anxiety and so far it aint doing much but make it worse, but i'm only 11 days in.
Alcohol doesn't need to be a critical part of your life, its a small price to pay if the meds can work uninterrupted. It's your choice of course, but a life with no alcohol and less anxiety sounds like a good trade off to me
I am the exact same Danielle. I haven't had even a glass of wine since February as the last time I did I went out and had to much and is what triggered my panic attacks etc... I'm now to scared to even have a glass! Even though I miss it as I like a Wee glass of wine!! I will ease myself in to it eventually though. Try not to worry, you will hopefully feel better in the morning. Xxx
Hi Dannie. I have the same issue! I have one drink once a week in the evening, and about 3 hours later my heart is racing and my breathing becomes faster. The next day my anxiety is back to 'normal'.
Now I know what the reaction is about, it doesnt bother me. I know it will pass and that I'm not actually anxious about anything.. It's just a physical reaction.
Like you, I'm not a big drinker.. but I like my 1 drink a week and I'm not giving it up, especially now I know what my bad reaction is!
I used to binge drink a lot, dealt with hangovers fine. But now since i've had quite bad anxiety, it lowers my confidence, mood and makes my mind race.
I had to take a step back and realise that alcohol is literally a depressant and a mood altering substance, despite it's alluring appeal! I used to use it a lot for social phobias too.
I'd advise giving the meds a while to work on their own, see how you go and try take a small break from the drink. It won't be like this forever, but if you give it some time you can come back to it with a better grip on how to deal with it.
Let us know how you get on, i hope we can all get back to enjoying those glasses of wine soon!
