Hello, I wonder if anyone could give me some advise please?
I have been taking Prednisolone 50mg since May and have really slowly got down to 20mg. Feel fine accept I have lumps come up either side of my face just between the cheek bone and temple bone.
The lumps seem quite hard and throbbing.
I went to my GP about a month ago and she said that it was nothing.
(she really didn't have a clue)! What I was thinking that it could be a allergic reaction to one of the other no active ingredigents in Prednisolone. Can this happen and has anyone else had this problem?
Jenny
Hi Jenny
That sounds like a classic symptom of CGA You should go back to a Dr and get checked out again!! urgently - if it is an allergic reaction they should also be able to tell you which one - sometimes the pharmacists are better at that than the Drs
It's not the moon face fat deposits caused br Pred is it? I have quite large lumps of fat (hamster cheeks) caused by pred which I'm told will go when I come off of steroids. I understand pred changes where you store fat, you can end up getting fatty deposits on your cheeks, back of neck and stomach. Better check out what Denise says as a priority,if it is GCA it needs urgent attention.
Jenny, as somersetsue has said, we can get fatty areas around the top of our cheeks with steroids, but the fact that you mention the lumps are throbbing is a little concerning. Can you get an opinion from a different Dr at the practice or a good optician who can check the appearance of the back of your eye, the optic nerve.
If you experience any sudden visual symptoms, such as pain or blurred vision, or any pain in your jaw when chewing, then do go to A&E immediately, tell them you are being treated for PMR and are concerned that you may have symptoms that can put your eyesight at risk.
Hi Jenny,
It is possible to have a reaction to Prednisone. I had an allergic reaction to it - my throat closed up and my voice reduced to a squeek - had to come off it straight away - so definitely go back to your doctor and get your problem checked out - whatever it could be. Hope it all works out for you. Best wishes.
I agree with denise. It does sound like a classic symptom of GCA. Go back to the doctor asap and demand he/she check it out. If that doesn't work go to emergency or casulality on an emergent basis!
It must be a it of a shock to read what everyone here has to say...
I feel for you.
Do take care pronto!
