I think I'm allergic to my plaquenil....i get fits of extreme itching all over but mostly arms and legs. The only way to get relief is putting them in very cold water and taking anti histamines. Is this normal? Does anyone else get this? And does it mean the plaquenil isn't working against the RA??
I was told by my rheumatologist to inform her if I had any itching, I tHink you're right and it may be an allergic reaction. You should contact your rheumatologist before you take any more.
Hi Bellaboo1973, Sorry to hear that your having trouble with the Hydoxychloroquine, I think it is something you need to discuss with the rheumatologist or your GP when you next see them and see what they have to say. Im waiting to start this drug myself so hopefully I wont have any problems with it. Can I ask how long have you been taking Hydroxychloroquine for?
Hi,
it does sound as though u have a allergic reaction. I hope anti histamine doesn't take the edge off the itching this is very important to report to UR doc. He can give u recommendations for dealing with the rash itching reaction by RX the appropiate antihistamine . There r some antihistamines that work better thru different pathways than OTC for various meds.
Also it's always important to inform UR doc of any reactions to meds.
It's miserable to itch all the time. I have a med that does that and my doc did give me a RX the only thing that stops the itching.
Good Luck.
I can't see my rheumy til Jan so my GP has given me the anti histamines to see me through this as he thinks the plaquenil is working otherwise.....
Hi, I've been taking it for around 4 months. Seeing my rheumy in Jan so have to wait til then
Thanks!!
I have been taking Plaquenil for about 2 months and aside from some nausea, I have also experienced a tingling in my legs. Mine isn't so much itching, but it is definitely uncomfortable. I must admit I did not read the 1 1/2 single spaced possible side effects because I didn't want to start thinking every little thing that happened was a result of the drug. I am getting out of be much easier and am hopeful it is working, but I had a very bad flare-up last weekend and ended up on prednisone. I've had a bad tooth infection which could have contributed but am in the process of taking care of that. Also, I personally feel that when we start to attack the problem, it fights back; at least I'm hoping so.
Hope this helps.
