Allergies from gallstones?

Has anyone had food and environmental sensitivities as a result of gallstones?  One day in 2012, out of the blue, I became "allergic" to almost everything.  I was treated at Mayo Clinic and diagnosed with Mast Cell Activation Disorder but so far the treatment has not worked.  I have had some type of allergic reaction every day for two years.  Last weekend I went to the local ER due to abdominal pain and I was told the CT scan showed gallstones.  I am hoping hoping hoping that my gallbladder is the source of all my food and chemical sensitivities but I don't feel comfortable "gambling an organ" and then still having all these issues after a gallbladder removal. If anyone else can relate to any of this or give me some insight, it would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Hi

would be interesting to find out if your allergies settle down after gallbladder removal?

I had physiologically become terrified of eating a whole spectrum of foods due to colic attacks . And am enjoying eating a more varied diet with no stomach pains smile. Food phobia disappearing .

If your reactions are digestive possibly .

but if your liver is also being compromised by your gallbladder you never know....

ask the specialist when you get referred ...

very interesting but very sad for you suffering daily reactions ....

Hi Sally,

Thanks for the advice!  My allergic reactions are systemic so it affects my GI, as well as cenormal nervous system and skin.

You mentioned that perhaps the liver is being compromised due to gallstones.  Do you think that gallbladder removal would eliminate the liver issue? Or is it perhaps not that easy.....

There are literally two foods I can eat and I have to be very careful with my environment as well because I have reactions to fragrances, salicylates, etc.

Hoping to find a solution soon so life can return to normal.

Hi wendy

its difficult to say as even your specialist will give you the some people are totally ok after surgery but  some have diarrhoea and others constipatition chat. Which means some peoples livers drip the right amount of bile some too much and some too little after surgery.

But right now your gallbladder should be storing bile concentrating it and when you eat fat or hard to digest foods your stomach requests more bile so it contracts and gives you a nice squirt down the bile duct.

If you have gallstones they cause pain when your gallbladder sqeezes if a stone gets sqeezed into the bile duct then you are violently sick for hours in absolute agony till it dislodges or passes.

Due to the gallstones your gallbladder can't store bile well the bile stagnates you can get  infection in your gallbladder. If a stone gets stuck in the bile duct for too long your liver gets affected you start to go yellow and your stools go whitish ... You would know if this happened you'd be in a lot of pain.

we all have felt tired , sluggish, general nauseous feeling with gallstones and after surgery a sense that something rotten got removed... And a realisation of how Well we felt after surgery.

Whether your gallstones have caused your allergies I don't know I doubt as they sound severe but removing something that's not operating properly and going rotten has got to help your body .....hope that helps
