Allopurinol and loss of sex drive/function?

Frankly, it probably has been going on for years - but it's decades to do damage, and indeed many people have high urates and are unaware of it.

What are your family health issues? There's no point in worrying about stuff which isn't genetic.

As for the sudden erectile problem - it's not a surprise when you've suddenly started taking 300 mg allopurinol which can cause it in some people. By the way, weight loss (and allopurinol) will bring on gout attacks - so be prepared for them. They'll stop once your blood urate returns to normal - which is between 1 and 33 months (most patients under 1 year).

So - don't panic! You don't have any problem that 10s of millions don't have, and sort out very successfully.

Live in the present, and deal with issues that are in the present. Right now your present is high urate levels, get that under control. You also have ED, like rusty suggest, use it as a stop gap. Stop future tripping and stay in the present.

Good advice!

Thanks to both of you, rustygecko and Sochima822, you have certainly put things in perspective and made me feel a bit better about everything.

I was actually doing some research on coffee, as I LOVE coffee, but I've heard mixed reviews on whether I should drink it or not with gout. So, it's essentially OK to drink coffee as long as I'm not overdoing it?

Yes, drink it in moderation and you should be fine.

You're very welcome.

I agree. Drink coffee. But coffee is a diuretic and therefore drink plenty of water too.

Thanks again to both of you.

Thanks again to both of you.

Strange, I take Allopurinol, and whilst I still fancy young good looking women, I'm not really that interested in my wife. Is this the drug, or is it that my wife is a bit overweight and very ugly !!

Hi

Its now been three weeks.... are you noticing any improvements?

No, she's still ugly

Have you thought about:

a) are you gay?

b) a divorce?

:-)

Or

c) new eye glasses?

Hey rusty,

I have actually had some improvements. I'm still not back to 100%, yet, at least, but I've been feeling much better and things have improved for sure. Thanks for checking up!

Good news! And as we suggested - give it time!

Definately not gay. Didn't even know gay people could get gout

Thank you!

One of the funniest comments I've heard in a long time. Unfortunately in 2016 it'll probably get deleted.

Thanks though.

All this sex stuff is overated anyway. The best night is a few pints up the pub, and Indian takeaway, a few glasses of wine, and watching match of the day in bed. Oh, and don't forget to take your medication !!

It's okay for you to say that, you're 88, while this young lad is 28 with a young hormone drenched wife! Match of the Day might do it for you, but not her! :-)

I think the Allopurinol is affecting your memory, Pain is not 88 and you're not 28, but then neither is Pain, LOL.
