Hi Jackie

That sounds horrible. Got to admit I know little about revisons. I've had 2 THR's and one fracture  weeks post op 2nd THR

You vent away.

I hope the MRI doesnt show anything awful......they are dreadful things anyway biggrin

Take care

Eileen

Hi Eileen,   Thank you Im trying to stay positive with horriable scaitic nerve damage and pain when walking its really hard . Revisions are not easy i really had no idea , I was alot younger when i had first total hip. I was born with Hip Displasia ONE DAY AT A TIME . You take care

Jackie

Hi Jackie, It's awful that you are having such a tough time. When people on this site are encouraging people to get the hip replacement done as quickly as possible because life is too short to be suffering pain at a young age, they would do well to think about revision. The reason that people are advised to wait as long as possible for the op is because revisions are more complicated and outcomes not as good. I understand that you had no choice but to have it done young, but I'm glad I stuck it out until the age of 55 when I had first replacement. I thought MRI scans could not be done where there is metal. Am I wrong about that?

Hi Juliette, Im having so many lower pain problems cant pick things up really hard for me to tie my shoes . So thats what mri is for xray showed loosening around rod going down my thigh One of the wires is coming loose. I forgot medical term for that smile Anyways i would of waited to have revision I was in so much pain missing work I didnt know what esle to do . You are right we should wait as long as we can my job was so physical bending standing squating, ordering inventory I would just cry at the end of my shift. Im now on disabililty physical therapy 3x week which i think is helping little just need to stay positive

Take Care

Jackie

Oh Jackie

I really feel for you

I think I'm bad and wish I hadnt had the 2nd THR because of the fracture but at least i can drive {not sure if you can or not} I dont go very far because i havent the confidence at the moment......2 crutches to walk and not very far and not without pain but not as bad as you by the sound of things.  I use my grabber a lot to pick things up.

As for my shoes.....most of them are velcro fastening or slipons but I still find it hard to bend to get thatdone.

You take care pet

Eileen

Hi Jackie,

You vent away love, most of us on here would be screaming in frustration.

The MRI scan should show much more clearly what is happening, and how much bone you have still left. They can do brilliant things with bone grafts nowadays, so try not to worry too much  - easy for me to say I know!

I am waiting for a revision next month, so am interested to know how you get on - keep us posted, won't you?

Yes, they make you take off your jewellery, clothes with metal fastenings, false teeth etc - but can still scan you with metal bits inside. Not sure how that works - anyone out there know?

Jean

Good morning, thank you I will keep you posted I wish you all the best take care Jackie

Hi

I dont understand that either.....I've got a metal plate, pins and screws in my ankle {apart from 2 THR's}

Do you want to hear a funny storey cheesygrin

I was having an MRI once in a mobile. Just a caravan divided in 2 and one bit is where they sit to operate the machine and the other bit is where the mRI machine is

She said go in there, slip your blouse over your neck and take your bra off then put yur blouse back on......Right.....I'm in this little tiny space got my blouse hanging round my neck, took my bra off and had it in one hand and was trying to get back into the blouse. I thought what do I do with this thing {bra} I sent it down on the table. wooooossssshhhhhhhh!!! it disappeared up and through the hole {not very technical I know} I looked as it happed....gobsmackedcheesygrin I opened the door and she said is everything oK?

I just said....Its gone!!! {still didnt quite know what had happenedbiggrin} she said what's gone? My bra....where? In there pointing to the hole where we slide into. Oh thats OK.......she then went to a door and I thought she was going to do something very technical to get it out. Opened the door, got a brush out and came in and stuck it in and pulled the bra out that waybiggrin I started to laugh after I got over the shock of it disappearing and she said I dont want you giggling in there.......you have to be stillwink

That was only the clips on my bra that did that so it shows how strong the magnets are.

Haha!  It's good to be able to laugh about these things!  I didn't even think you could have an MRI if you had hip replacements.  Stella

I have sciatic nerve damage from surgery thats what they will be looking at and the hip in xray showes loosening of prosthetic I had alot bone lose in surgery i have wires wrapped around my prosthetic maybe they can do MRI who knowsthey dont tell you much I received phone from my doctors assistant that we wants MRI done no details yet my insurance has to approve first. I dont work im on disability im surprised i have insurance still I know i wont have insurance at the end of the year !!

For the record I had MRI before my surgery and bone scan that showed loosening of the prosthetic thats why i had revision surgery and i could hardly walk

Hi Stella

Dont forget the metal p[late, pins and screws in one ankle as wellcheesygrin I'm Nearly bionic nowwink

It was funny after I got over the shock....I just looked at it disappearing before my eyes  biggrin

Vent anytime Jackie!  That is why we are all here.  I am so sorry for these struggles and would wave my magic wand and heal you if I could.  Discouragement can get the better of us, but hope is stronger than fear and know that I am thinking of you.

My best,

Dawn

Wow Eileen!  That is funny!  I too did not know that an MRI can still be performed with metal gadgets implanted.  Good to know because there is no way I am  having my shoulder replacements without current MRI's.  Those turn out like normal photographs  and can reveal so much more than an x-ray or CT scan.

The case of the disappearing bra..Sounds like a Nancy Drew book!  Ha

Love,

Dawn
