alternatives for Uretheral UTI

Reallly feeling so very uncortable to say the least, im taking antibiotics trimethoprim 22mg, says take 2 a day for 3 days, this is day 2 so only one day left and its showing no signs of going at all.  Been drinking loads of water, tried the bicarb of soda remedy and also taking urvi ursa herb but not the same time as the anti biotics. Anyone know of anything that reall works to get rid of this please? Havnt been to drs yet as i still had these antibiotics in the cupboard from last time, never needed  to take them as urine test showed no infection. This is inbearable, its not menapause related as im 66. Any suggestions please?

meant 200mg not 20 lol

Even tthough you  have passed menopause  you might need an anti biotic cream (eg Premarin) to put in your vagina a few times a week. ask your dr or gynaecologist.  Lack of estrogen can cause discomfort there after urinating.

Hope you feel better soon. I am not a medical person Please discuss with your dr.

I think even though your urine test comes back negative it might just not show up  as an infection for some reason and antibiotics might still help. As I said  I  am not a dr.and  do  not wish to give you incorrect advice..

Ask your Dr about Azo or Pyridium to help wth the burning.(it is not an anti biotitic It just helps with the burning.)

Do you know you should always finish a course of anti biotics even though you might feel better.

Thanks Evelyn, well last day of the antibiotics and still just as bad, im off to the drs tomorrow and will ask about the Azo or the Pyridium, as you say lack of estrogen causes no end of problems in that area, was prescribed vagifem which helps but i had to stop using them due to side affects. Ive actually taken an extra two days worth of the antibiotics .

Hi Evelyn where can you buy this  Pyridium, im getting no where trying to find it on google, lots of info but no where to buy it from. By the way just finished last course of antibotics and its coming back again, took last capsule this morning.

If you live in the states it is called AZO.Not sure if it is  over the counter  or  if you  must ask the pharmacist

I live in toronto Canada and get pyridium from  pharmacy that makes it up for  me

it is also called  phenazopyridine.. You will need a prescripion in Canada
