Hi Chandra

Please feel rest assured, this is another anxiety symptom. I also experience a sensation of a lump in my throat at times. Distraction is a big help in these situations. You need to do something to take your mind away from this sensation. Try colouring in, or the 5,4,3,2,1 game - name 5 things out loud you can see that are blue, name 4 farm animals, name 3 things that you can touch, name 2 things you can smell and name 1 thing you can hear (mix it up if you need to do it a few times). In between this wiggle your toes, then your ankles, then rub your hands together and slowly pull them apart and feel the sensation it causes, or stand up and do a full body shake, I know it sounds weird and silly, but just make your whole body jiggle - and the more you laugh the better! Tell yourself that you are safe, and that it is anxiety and it will pass. Or pick up the phone and call a friend for a talk, this simple thing can help to move your mind on to other things. Chewing sugar free gum also helps me, and if it’s close to bed, eat a whole ripe banana, it has tryptophan and magnesium, both of these help you to relax and regulate serotonin, and I’ve found this really helps to calm me for bed time.  Remember you are strong, and you control your mind, it doesn’t control you. Find a mantra that works for you, and do see someone if you need to talk - psychologists, Counsellor, Mindfulness coach are all helpful - I also use the phone app β€œcalm” which has some great techniques to help work through anxious situations and to help remind you to be kind to yourself. Hope these tips are helpful. This is a great forum, and there will be loads of others in here too with helpful tips! Stay strong and when the sun shines, turn your face towards it and take a moment to just feel the warmth it brings 😊

Wow thanks Amanda, I'm willing to give these things a try if they would distract this feeling. My goodness it's scary!😦

Remember you are not alone, and don’t let it scare you, anxiety does have a use - it’s really just a way to tell us that we’re doing too much, and it’s time to stop, take a deep breath and take care of ourselves! Remember no matter what anxiety tries to throw at you, just say really, is that all you’ve got? It can’t ever hurt you, and you need to always tell yourself that it will pass, and don’t let it try and draw you in - acknowledge okay I’m feeling anxious, meh, now what’s something more worthwhile to focus on, a great book, getting some fresh air, or watching a funny movie. Just talking can be enough to help you to put it back in its box πŸ“¦ Be kind to yourself, and things will always get better πŸ‘ŒπŸΌ
