Hi All, just to see your thoughts on this, I know we are all different. I am five weeks post op, posteria full hip repalcement. My aim has been to get my two bichon frise home (dogs) I feel I have been doing well, no painkillers since week three, down to one crutch by the same time and have been building up my walking ready for when the "boys" come home. They arrived yesterday as the friend who has been looking after them for me is going on holiday. I took them for a walk twice yesterday, being two I have to go without my crutches as I can't hold two dogs and crutches. Since getting up thismorning I have slight pain in my groin and top of my operated leg, do you think this is just coincidence or have I been a bit previous ditching the crtches? I do have help with the walking but not for every walk. Your thoughts would be most welcome.
Hi Cindy,Please remember that you have had a major op. It can take at least 6 month s or more to really recover properly. So please slow down.Ask your physio for advise.Regards Amanda
Being a dog person too but being without any at the moment I know how important it is for both you and them to get them back.
To be honest I think you are likely to be setting yourself back by not using your crutches, sticks or walking poles until you have regained sufficient muscle strength to properly support you. It really is important to be walking in a balanced way with a good gait before ditching your aids.
I really do think it would be wise to find someone who could join you on your doggie walks for the next few weeks.
Would it be too upsetting for the dogs to be walked one at a time. I know with our two dogs that I have to creep out of the house with one so that the other does not know what is going on! It takes two people to walk our dogs so if I want to do it alone I can only take one. You could shorten your walk so that going twice is not too much for you.
thanks Richard for being honest with me. All the posts seem to agree with you. I really don't want to go backwards on this as I feel I've done so well this far. Will enlist more help and then I'm able to take at least one crutch with me 😘
God Cindy you sound like Wonder Woman to me . I could never have walked my dog at 5 weeks and yes too early to give up crutches ..careful they don't pull you over . Glad your doing so well but I urge caution ..I love dog walking and it is now a breeze again ..at 9 months post op. Plus I was a fit active 56 yr old before op . Just be careful .,
Sadly the rear garden is small, the front one bigger but not secure as it's open plan. My daughter has a huge garden, hadn't thought of that. Well spotted Lisa 😘
Thanks Hazel, I must say everyone who sees me can't believe it when they see me. I do seem to have done really well, nothing like they told me. On saying that I don't want to set myself back in any way. I have taken all the comments on board, Lisa has given me an idea about sitting in my daughters large garden with them and also walking them one at a time when I have no help. The pain seems to have settled down some today. I did rest it yesterday evening and over night. 😘
Hi Renee, while I understand what Snowflake is saying and she is right io course I also knew that my new hippy friends would have ideas of ways around my dog walking 🚶 🚶 I was not disappointed. What a wonderful group this is and you all are. Many many thanks for all your input ❤️ ❤️ x
