Am I having a Stroke?

I'm a 24 year old female with no prior health issues, except for anxiety due to immense stress at University - I am reading my second degree. I've been given Propanalol to take when necessary.

Recently however, I've been experiencing some quite scary symptoms. This started in mid may when I was sat in front of a computer desk for 10 days straight during a uni deadline (getting about 6 hours sleep a day) with no physical exercise or constant diet. During this time I carried a heavy suitcase, taller than me, up some stairs and I felt something pull in my right arm and face. However, I did not pay much attention to this.

After this I started to get feelings of weakness in my left arm, and I generally felt quite disorientated. I figured this was due to the stress I was under due to my deadline, however anxiety kicking in, I went to see my doctor who put it down to vitamin deficiencies. I started to feel back to myself after this.

However, these symptoms crept in last week (again in the midst of a deadline). After a day out running some errands, unrelated to my work, I consumed high levels of sugar and caffine. Upon my return home I experienced an irregular heartbeat, weakness in my left arm and pain in the right side of my face, with dizziness and nausea. I ended up vomitting, and felt slightly better, however my headache did not go away.

During this time I experienced the left side of my head go totally numb, which in turn contributed to my anxiety. I also found it difficult to think clearly and was forgetting names and words while communicating.

These symptoms have been continuous over the last week. My arm feels fine now however the right side of my face feels pulled and my right eye feels foggy and I cannot seem to focus clearly. I am also getting pounding headaches in different parts of my head.

I am struggling to distingish whether I am having/or have had a stroke, or it is just in my head. I've spoken to a few friends who are doctors and they have just said it's more likely to be a migrane as a result of stress. The issue is I do not feel stressed whatsoever, even though my deadline is tomorrow. Is this all in my head or should I be worried?

Did any of your dr frinds suggest seeking medical attention and a few tests such as ECG , blood tests,

I would see a dr asap who can run these tsts on you.

Take care.

xx

The same thing happened to me i am 29 and was out work and had 600 mg of caffine in two hours my vison went blurry and then tingle in arm and nausa and hr was 120 and bp 145/90 and I was trying to say my husband's name but I couldn't I could think it and knew the word I was saying was incorrect ...i have had every test possible and all they found was a folic acid mutation....i have been dx with migraines and I have never had one in my life ....i myself think it was a severe panic attack from the caffine bolus

It could be  related to underlying stress. But I always recommend that people get a follow-up appointment with their doctor just to have things checked out. Then you will have peace of mind also.

many symptoms are common with many different conditions,  serious and not serious. That's why I recommend the doctor visit.

in the meantime there are some great audio meditations for anxiety and stress found on YouTube. I listen to them a couple times a day and they really help relax everything. All anxiety starts in the brain and to get rid of the symptoms you need to really relax your mind and body.   Just search for a guided meditation for anxiety. There are many to choose from and you can see if maybe after doing this for a few days, your symptoms may diminish. Then you'll know it's definitely anxiety causing them.
