Amitriptyline 50mg for pain??

Yes, tramadol can help, but it can also cause side effects like dizziness and light headedness.  It took me a while to get used to it, but I was on it for many years because of herniated disks, but my husband who has ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia was also on it for years.  Now, he's on Morphine.

I was prescribed it but it made me too drowsy on waking so I stopped taking it. I use Valerian for a good sleep at night and it works brilliantly with no side effects.

Hi ! Valerian is a herb. It was used by the Romans to help sleep. It actually has some sleep inducing properties. Some people find it useful . It does not work for me, but my sister used to swear by it until she was diagnosed with severe back disease. Then it was too weak to overcome the pain. Amitriptyline is an anti-depressant which also helps you sleep.

I used it for about 10 years until it became too weak for me. There is sometimes some assistance with chronic pain. It works for some.

However it does not seem to help with severe pain. Even Morphine is getting too weak for me now. ME can be vicious and cause extreme agony. I am glad that Valerian works for you. You are lucky in a way.

Please don`t dismiss drugs like Amitriptyline. They are a group of trusted and effective drugs without strong side effects normally anyway.

Best wishes.....Mitty

I've heard that it helps some people with ME. I only took it for less than a week because the drowsiness was just too much. I have some left and I've been wondering if I should give them another try. I'll have to find out more about exactly which symptoms it helps with. I don't need them for sleep and I take cocodomol for pain. But if they help with anything else it might be worth it.

Yes Tramadol. An artificial opiate. I used to take this about ten years ago. It worked for a bit then failed to do anything for me. I am told that my own body starts to get used to certain drugs and then ignores them. This can be a real problem. Tramadol was the worse for me. Codeine Phosphate has never let me down. It is turned into morphine by your own body by an enzyme.

The bad pain with ME does travel around the body as it goes from one area/organ to another. It is a migratory disease. By the way all opiates cause constipation.

 Hope this helps    Mitty
