Amytiptyline for pain

9 weeks post op and I am off strong pain relief but struggling to sleep because of pain in good side,operated side,heels and back.Probably due to having a full day and walking every day,which I love.I don't want to take co codamol as it is very constipating so was prescribed amytiptyline.10mg dose to start.This makes me drowsy but after 2 nights does nothing for pain.The information says it could take e 2 weeks for pain relief to kick in.Anyone had any experience of this please?

I am not familiar with Amytiptyline and googled it - seems that it is precribed for neuropathy and depression ???  not sure of course as  I am not a medical person -

What kind of pain do you experience? is it nerve pain? is it only at night?

I would discuss this with your doctor - no need to be in pain and miserable -

I used to have this for spinal stenosis, but it didn't work. It works on the nervous system. But as far as I am aware, that's all it can do with regard to pain. So if the passion originates from a nervous system issue, it could help. But if it is other pain, it won't.

That said, nobody I know found it to work for nervous system pain anyway! As suggested, go back and tell the doctor it isn't helping. There are other alternatives.

Hey that's the stuff that's been on the back boiler for 6 weeks eh? Last thing on our minds when we have felt as if we have been sitting on rocks! :o)

Hi Janet.

i was put on a low dose of Amytriptyline 10 mg for neck pain & to help me sleep. You do need to take them about 4 hours before you go to bed so they have time to help you relax enough to help you sleep. Not very good for very server pain but they do help you relax but they are more for nerve pain really.
