As title says, has anyone been on this (amytripryline) I’ve been on this for a couple of years now, trying to come off it but having big problems cutting back. Having issues when I go up the wooden stairs to Bedfordshire 
It’s keeping me from getting to sleep, which in the beginning it was helping me with…
Just thought I’d ask…

I was introduced to this in February and it was the wonderful first night sleep in ages . Now ive had the op i also was going to stop, I was going to take half a tablet for a few weeks then alternative nights, does this help ?

Hi,
I am sure you know this but, as a lot of people taking this drug think it is a muscle relaxant amitriptyline is an old antidepressant. Many years ago doctors started giving valium (diazepam) to relax the muscles, now amitriptyline is the go to drug. If you do want to come off it take it slowly as they are additive.

nurse here, amitryptiline is used for nerve pain and it does help people sleep. it is an antidepressant but for pain it is usually used in fairly low doses to help sleep and radiating nerve pain. i get that down my leg from my hip although the leg is fine. if your pain is sorted with surgery it would be worth talking to your doctor about weaning of it
