I’m on the waiting list to have an anal skin tag removed (on the NHS so likely under GA with no stitches).
I’ve seen very mixed reports online about how painful the recovery is.
Would anyone be willing to share their experience of the procedure and recovery?
Hi, I had some small piles removed about 11 months ago but the main problem was a very large skin tag which would fill with blood and then burst meaning I just bled out. On each bowel movement I lost about a large mug of blood. My blood cell count was very low and had to take high dose iron tablets. I had read about mind blowing pain and had no bowel movement for four days. Eventually I needed to go and sat on the loo with a flannel stuffed in my mouth, then my bowels opened and—no pain whatsoever truthfully no pain. The surgeon told me that because of the position of the wound he would use plastic staples as stitches were a no no. My operation was at Guildford hospital in Surrey and I had no mucus as far as I know however nearly one year latter I get mucus leaks even without bowel movement.
