i am sorry but I have more questions! Does anybody know if you are given a choice of anaesthetic? My preference would be an epidural.
Also, has anyone had a double Hip Replacement? This may be what I am offered on the 23rd September and I would really like to hear from anyone who has had that experience. Thank you.
Don't make the same mistake as me and assume the later two are the same- they are not
I was booked for a spinal block, but due to another condition on the morning of my surgery tje anethasist told me she was not happy to give me a SB but I could have epidural and a GA, I questioned this and found that a SB is much deeper and if I went forvtje epidural I would have to have the GA as well I therefore opted for just the GA
HiLynI was told if I had an anaesthetic I would not be able to have pain killers straight away, that did it for me because I can assure you and others will tell you you need them,go for the other option, and enjoy your sleep Good Luck Michael.
Isn't it odd how there are differing experiences with this. I guess I will have to wait and question the consultant but thank you guys. The least painful would be my choice.
Hi,it is not contradictory,I am explaining what my Hospital told me,every one has there own idea,as this hospital believes in Phsio after, that is Doncaster, and when I moved to Harrogate their Policy is not to,so you need to find out your Hospital policy before you start,Michael.
My post might, at a stretch, I suppose, be open to ambiguity. I was by no means accusing you, nor anyone else here, of being 'contradictory'. That's why I used the term 'treatment'.
Just pointing out differing, and yes contradictory, treatment and processes by medical professionals in their processes.
I was given the choice of a General, an epidural or a spinal with sedation I chose the latter one and it was brilliant. Would certainly have that again. There are a few people on here who have had the double and plenty who are waiting for their second one.
Hi,sorry if I wasn't clear but that is the one I went for,the General and the sedation, you all will think I'm still on it,I sometimes wish I still was, only joking far away from those days, don't I sound positive! Cheers Michael.
I had a spinal block for both of my THR's and was very happy with both of them....didnt hear a sound. I had slight sedation {injection} and knew things were happening and people were about but that was all. I didnt hear anything or see anything come to that
I had opted for epidural and sedation for my first op, but the epidural didn't take well enough and a had a light G A. When it came to the second op I had the same aneasiatist, I was nervous about how aware I was likely to be with sedation so went with the same again. The epidural carried on working after the G A has worn off so no pain when coming round. X
A double hip replacement takes about three hours, and therefore a general anasthetic plus epidural seems the usual practice, but the anaesthetist will do various assessments and discuss it all with you beforehand. I had a GA and knew nothing until I came round four hours after going into the prep room, and had absolutely no ill effects.
Hi Lyn I had Epidural for both my Hip operastions, they were both different too, the first one put me right out, do not remember a thing, the second I was awake the whole time, and hour+ fifteen mins, I felt the hammering and chiseling, and the wirling bit that cut into me, but no pain, and I was fine, no groggyness or dry mouth, either time, so I think you dont get the choice, it is up to the Anythatist, if you wake up too much, then they give you more juice that puts you under more, they know what they are doing, and are part of a team working on you, well I got no choice, and it was all explained to me while I was waiting for the operation.
