Been on PPIs for decades due to a hiatus hernia and Barrett’s esophagus but 2 years ago my GP increased dose to twice daily. Ferritin levels have been dropping ever since but at greater and greater speed. Taking supplements for years, recently including Iron bisglycinate but nothing seems to stop the decline. Anyone had a battle with this? GP has prescribed Ferrous Fumarate but has asked I reduce Omeprazole dose to once a day for 4 weeks. Whilst I suspect this will work, I also suspect it will fail to work the minute I return to 2 tablets a day.
Some PPIs are less likely to cause anemia. Ask you dr to consider changing you to pantoprazole. Before you change PPI, measure your B12
