I had surgery for a fractured ankle 2 years ago. I got a plate and 3 pins to hold bone, I haven't had any bother with it up until now it's painful, I can't wear anything past my ankle i had called NHS tonight and they basically told me there was nothing they can do and no one would see me. Below the pin thats just about coming out the skin, is a tiny bone thats also poking out. Is this normal or am I worrying for nothing? I've been reading forums about similar situations and saw that other people have had to get their pins/screws removed. I've tried calling my GP but have to wait atleast 3 weeks for an appointment and with Christmas coming up to!
Hi Collette,
When I fractured my ankle there was a lady in A&E who had come in for the same as you and she was seen and treated by doctors there. Get yourself to the hospital so you're not in pain over Christmas. x
Yes the pins and plates need to come out soon, but go to a+e re the 'bone sticking out'. That needs checking out.
You need care now. Please get that checked because you do not want an infection.
Best wishes for relief soon!
