hi can you help i have got my left ankle fused and am now looking like i will have to have my right one fused i have two club feet .i am 50 at my next birthday so the question i would like to no are
is there any one that has had two ankles fused
how you walk after what things you can not do
will i be classed as disabled
hello shaun,i had my left ankle fused about two years ago and im so glad i did, there is a lot of scary stories on the internet about what happens after and i can tell you that they are nonsense, yes there are risks during,it is major surgery after all nut after a lengthy healing process (about 6-7 months) the ankle isnt far from normal.i have excellent range of motion and can even stand on slight tiptoe, about three inches of the ground.also there is good range from side to side as you will see for yourself, sorry im not sure if your still in plaster and already know this but im assuming your not,as far as having both done i cant comment but what i would say is if the other of my ankles needed doing i wouldnt be too worried, there would be no need for me to be signed as disabled,it also depends on you as well, being 36 when i had it done i probably naturaly heal faster than you would so it might take longer to get there.i think you would be fine especially if you already suffer with club feet, its more something a doctor can awnser for sure.as regards to me i can walk with no obvious difference long distances, wear any type of shoe and dont suffer any pain what so ever from the joint, the only thing i cant do is run and jump,i can play golf ,ride a bike it even looks fairly normal, just cant point my toes.
good luck to you mate, you have my deepest sympathies and my best wishes
Hi Jamie
sorry I forgot to mention I had my left ankle fused about 6 years ago . It was more about what problems are there's with having two ankles fused as I am self employed and the last one did take 8 mounths to get back to work . I am glad you have got the movement in you foot but with club feet there is no movement in the foot .it is very hard to find anybody that has had two ankles fused
shaun
