Ankle fx s/p orif

So today I saw the dr he said lose boot and walk. Well I can barley walk using a walker is this normal and how hard do I push or is a little more each day gonna help. I had a trimellou fx with 10 screws and two stabilizing rods. Accident happened in July 8 weeks post op.

It took me 4-5 weeks to walk without aids, with a trimallelar fracture and 13 screws. Start week 1 with tapping the foot down (25%) in the boot, with crutches, move to 50% the next week, or earlier if you can, etc. I went back and forth between crutches and a walker- your muscles and your bones will get stronger every single day, by doing the weight bearing.

Hi Jenn, I broke my ankle in February and had orif surgery in March. After 6 weeks post op Dr said walk. No boot, just walk. I had forearm crutches and started with partial weight for about two weeks, then took it from there. After two weeks I went between one crutch and two crutches for a few weeks, trying in between with no crutches. You may experience pain for a while, so take your pain killers and anti inflammatory tablets. Go for physio, it is really important and do exercises at home. It will take a few weeks, listen to your body, this is a good guideline on how much you can do. Push a little more every day and suddenly it will all come together. Good luck.

Thanks this helps. Whe. He said walk no devices I thought I am healed well wanting to walk and being able to are different. I start therapy Tuesday and I am doing my own stretching and walking with Walker so I will keep that up and push through a little each day. Glad to hear it come back slowly! Thanks

Thanks my doctor made it sound like full weight no device now go lol. He anticipated back to work for me I. 4 weeks and I do home visits as a Geratric and head trama social worker so I need to walk and sadly move fast enough of a client is agitated. I will try to remain patient and take one day at a time.
