Ankle Pain

I posted a while back and no replies. Hoping there are some new people on here that may relate. I am 18 weeks LTHR posterior approach. I am still having ankle swelling and pain by afternoon .I am wondering if this is normal. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi, I am approximately 20 weeks post op, and still suffer with swollen ankles, mainly the opposite ankle to the operated leg strangely.  I also get occasional groin pain on the operated side and my other hip will need to be replaced within the next 12-18 months I think.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Xx

Ellen

I think it is not unusual for ankles to be a bit swollen for a long time after surgery. My revision surgery was nearly 6 months ago and although it doesn't look very swollen I do find that my operated foot is tight when putting boots or shoes on.

I think it is partly due to not spending enough time moving on my feet. I am reasonably active but probably don't do as much as I did before my surgery.

Hi Ellen:  I am 12 weeks out.  AIso had such horrible swelling  on the right ankle. THR right leg.    Went to ER twice and finally went to my GP who sent me to a foot Dr.  They took a xray to be sure nothing was broken in surgery.   Also I was having pain and swollen by my toes.  Foot Dr. said I had a sprain and gave me a cortozon shot for my pain by my toes.  I wore surgical stockings for the swelling and lots of ice and kept my foot elevated during the day.  I kept doing my exercises and rode the bike at the gym.  It has gone down a lot, but sometimes swells.  Maybe you should call your GP?  I am so much better than the first two months.  There is light at the end of the tunnel.  It just takes some of us longer, but I do think you should get it checked.  18 weeks seems a long time to still be swelling?
