Ankle swelling

hi. I have had a total knee replacement done for nearly a year now and am doing really well but I notice when I've been to the gym or done quite a long walk my ankle of the same leg swells up and takes a while to go down. Has other people had the same problem. Thanks

I think that for peace of mind you should get your GP to check it out, but a couple of things you could do is make sure your boots/shoes are not too tight, does raising it help to lower it, has it been warm when your walking because instantly it warms up mine swells, not massively but its noticeable. Ice it, soak feet in cool salt or Epsom salt water.

Try not to stand to long or sit to long and make sure your getting enough fluids but not caffeine

Valerie,  Yes, I have swelling in ankle and on side of knee sometimes if I am up and about over 8 hours.  I am 17 months post TKR.  I did see surgeon 1st time knot showed up on side of knee....I was told to ice and elevate to relieve it.  It does go away when I do so.  I was told I would continue to heal for 2 years....and this has been an interesting ride...ups and downs.

was told by surgeon, ankle swelling was normal.....mine is caused by some fluid...he said it goes to ankle because I am up and about...made sense to me.

get checked to relieve your concern.

take care,

Pam
