Annoying pain

i mean-its all annoying really, but this has me slightly worried.im used to odd pains, even now(3 1/2months from r thr) but put it down to doing a bit more,or something different,as after a decent rest or a nights sleep,it usually went, the general trend has been up. however the night before last i was waking with a pain in the right buttock(yes, pain in the bum, giggle),then when i got up next morning(yesterday)i had a pain in the hip that almost made me turn back on our morning walk(me and the dogs)which persisted all day,i had to take painkillers.thought it would be gone this morning,as is usual, but no,still hip pain, and pain in buttock.  Id hoped i was past having to have"take it easy"days!  anyone hazard a guess at what i may have done? I dont recall doing anything excessive, just walking and housework, washing, etc, pretty normal day.thanks in advance x

Hi

I've had bum cheek pain for days my physio said the muscles are still to weak to manage the weight on that side yet. I still use my crutches at 13 weeks. My hip is extremely stiff as I had a size to big put in so that doesn't help, yesterday I was doing house work when turned and felt a pain inside my hip it hurt that much I had to sit. Puts the fear of god in me!

I had my THR in Oct 2015, and still get pains.  To put it into context, I am currently trying to lose some of the weight I have accumulated after the THR , so I am going to the gym one or two times a week, and doing a fair bit of walking and cycle riding.  The pain I get sounds like yours, hip and up into the buttock, and across my lower back.

I suspected it might be from twisting when doing exercises, but after today's workout when I avoided that element, I have the pain again, so I now suspect that it comes from doing lots of sit-ups. I should know soon as I will try omitting exercises at each gym session and see how it goes.

Graham

i bet!you poor thing! i suppose it could be that my muscles are still weak, though in my opinion they shouldnt be(heheh)as i have increased my walks to almost pre op days.xx

yes the pain does seem similar, annoying, isnt it,but youre doing far more than me-i only walk three mad collies, Do you have access to a trainer at your gym, could you ask his advice? i was planning to get on my bike today, but i ll wait and see what the hip pain is planning to do!xx

Pam,

I am planning to see my trainer next wee if possible, so we can get to the bottom (no pun intended) of my pain, what is causing it, and how to improve things.

I am some two and a half years post THR & revision now, but the pains do seem similar to yours.

I have no problems on my pushbike, in fact it seems to help with mobility in general.  I was commuting in and out of London using a hire bike for the last part of my journey for over 12 months during my recovery period.

So far today, it doesn't seem as bad with just the occasional stabbing pain down the thigh and across my back, but the next few days will tell me.

im glad youre seeing him,let me know if hes got any useful advice, heheh.he ought to know more than we do,at least!i really dont like this pain-it feels wrong-roll on tomoro, mite feel better!its a nuisance, all these problems-youve been a lot more active than i have,i think, all ive done in the past,is walk, ride a bike and the odd aerobic class-but remember what they used to say-use it or youll lose it-well,i used mine and still lost it-i want it back!best of luck for next week x

Hi Pam I have been having similar pain mainly at night which stops me sleeping. Mine really started after I started to walk unaided -although I had a virus and sneezed pulling muscles which set off the original problems with my lower back.

I am seeing a Bowen therapist next week who helped me pre op. Feeling hopeful!

Yeah, I had butt cheek pain too for a pretty long time. Always better in the morning. Just walking, build up your glute muscles again. However one word of caution, there was a woman on here who posted that she wasn't improving and no amount of exercising was helping and she had a torn glute muscle which was found only using a special scanning. I forget if it was an MRI or what the machine was, you might look up torn gluteus maximus. Not to worry you, just keep that in the back of your mind, and when you walk use correct posure, it is most important that your posture is correct, it is better to walk less with correct posture than to walk more with poor posture. Just walk as long as you can with good posture and then stop, head up, shoulders back, back straight, heel then toe, heel then toe. You are using muscles, specifically your glute muscles you have probably not used in years so 3 1/2 months is not really all that long to bring everything back up to code so to speak.

thankyou for your reply-oh dear,i dont want a broken bum!its still as bad today, but i can walk ok,even if it hurts,so im hoping its just muscle pain, that will clear off soon.i ll bear what you said in mind, though, and thanks again x
