Anterior/posterior repair tomorrow

Hi. So I've just been to see my surgeon to sign my consent form for tomorro and she's saying if all goes ok I may be allowed home tomorrow night which had made me feel abit better about it all. Is the normal In most cases as I was always thought I would have to stay in? Xx

That's unusual I think hun.most of us have had to stay overnight.I'm 9 days post op anterior repair.I came out the next day after weeing the correct amount.they won't allow you home till your bladder is

Emptying OK.xx

Seems very quick. I had anterior repair & hysterectomy & stayed in two nights. They left catheter & pack in for first night, I also had O2. To be honest I would have preferred 3 nights as I still felt very wobbly! Are you in the UK?

Dont be tricked by that. it seems allot of woman think because they get to go home they can do more than they should. Me included...It's hard real hard to do nothing. In your mind you must pretend you are still in the hospital.... Take it so slow that you begin to think your just lazy and then rest some more... Your recovery is most important thing about this surgery... Do to much the sugery will be a fail... Then you get to have the surgery all over again...  Good luck

Hi Mrsg,

I had A&P repair too.

They let you home as soon as the catheter and pack are out and you're peeing normally, you must make a certain quota of urine. If all else is going OK, like blood pressure, and eating and drinking plenty all the usual things they check. they then let to home.

So will depend on how early you surgery is and how quickly you get through all the above.

Good luck and hope all goes well.

It is unusual but it does happen occasionally. I have to be absolutely honest though and say I don't agree with it........sorry

Thankyou for all your messages I always thought i would of had to stay in. My surgeon said today I have to have pack and catheter in for at least 4 hours and if I'm ok I can go home around 6ish if I'm in early. She did say I do have a bed available if I need to stay in and to take my things just in case. Xx

Hiya yes I'm having my op in Devon x

Thanks Hun x

I would definitely stay in.aftert g a you feel very off it lol and very weak. If you can stay then its worth it.yoiu will be ready mentally also the next day. Xx

There's no way they would have sent me home the next day and we never discharged patients the same day either especially after a rectocele and cystocele repair.

3 year ago I had hysterectomy and anterior repair. When the took my pack out they pulled on stitch and about an hour later I started bleeding heavy, eventually had to take me to treatment room to stop bleeding. I was glad the bleeding started in ward rather than at home.

I know theses things are unlikely to happen but better to be in at least 1 night where all the lovely nursing staff and docs are only to happy to help!

Phyl xx

I'm going to take all my stuff in just incase I didn't think it was right when she said I could go home same day xx

I am 13 days post op today. I was first up on the morning of my op and I still ended up staying 2 nights.

They had some issues with my blood pressure which meant I was in recovery 2 hours and then my blood pressure was low for the whole of the next day.

I also had quite a lot of pain killers over nighton the first night (think this might just be me though!) and my pack wasn't taken out until lunchtime the day after the op. I then had one reasonably comfortable night in hospital before going home.

You will have to take it as you find it but don't be surprised if you do end up staying in and if you do it is because hospital is the best place for you at that point.

Good luck for tomorrow, will be thinking of you.

I'm surprised they are removing your pack and catheter after 4 hours. The first 24 hours following any surgery are the most risky as Phy mentioned she bled heavily and that's one if the risks. I know it's lovely to be home but see if you can stay in overnight x

I had a lot of pain relief my first night Claire in fact I couldn't have coped with the pain if I'd been sent home. I had a rectocele and cystocele repair and was in hospital for 2 nights

After reading all the messages I'm getting abit worried. I am going to see if I can stay in, I was very suprised when she said i could be home same day. Xx

Didn't want to worry you but I think we are just shocked. I would see if you can stay in overnight but if they do discharge you make sure you have a direct telephone number to call if you are worried and ask them what to expect in the first 24 hours. You also need adequate pain relief, don't be fobbed off with them telling you to take paracetamol. You may think initially you haven't much pain but remember you'll have been given strong pain relief in theatre and at some point, probably during the night that will wear off. They should give you painkillers to take home and hopefully stool softeners x

I live an hour away from the hospital so would be better if I did stay in. My surgeon told me today I will be sent home with stool softener and pain relief but I'm lot sure what. Xx

Take an overnight bag just in case. I'm sure you will be well looked after but don't let them push you out before you are ready. Hope it goes well for you. X
